I just started my grow operation and my plant is 3 weeks old from seedling. I am using Foxfarms Happy Frog potting soil and I am using a Maxsisun 600W LED Light, actual draw is 134W its about 24” above my plants. This is bag seed that my friend in Saipan just gave me some local seeds they grow with, no clue what kind of strain. I am on a 18/6 light schedule but I’m not sure what is causing the tips to brown, it started on the oldest leaves and now is starting to get splotchy yellowish spots on the newer leaves with some burn on the edges as well. One my latest 3 finger in the middle there are some black spots as well. I haven’t used any nutrients yet. I have been pH’ing my water every time I water around 6.2-6.8 The first burn started about 5 days ago and I thought it was due to overwatering my plants so I laid off until the top soil was clearly dry. Could the light be too close possibly?
Is that a plastic pot? I suspect you may have issue with root ball getting some oxygen. Soil looks awfully wet.
Yes it is a plastic pot, should I be switching to a different material? I had just watered maybe an hour before I took the picture, it was ready for a watering. I went the last three days with no water.
Plastic pots will work, just my experience that most need some extra holes added to bottom and around the outside of base. Are you planning on moving to larger pot?
How much are you watering per session?
I can definitely add more holes for better drainage. I was planning to repot to a 5 gallon after some more growth. I can see the roots poking out of the bottom of the pot a bit so do you think it’s time to repot?
I have just been spraying the top soil the first two weeks. At the end of the second week I watered 200 ml and today another 200 ml (end of third week).
Sounds like a problem for ppl that use that metric system… let’s see if my calculations are right 200ml. … So you added 10 gallons of water? My math isn’t so great…lol
All in all I think your issue is small potatoes. The pic is hard to tell but she looks like she might be a lil lanky in height so raising the light might not be the solution. can you put up a pic of the entire plant? When you transplant her sink it up to just below the cotyledons as well. Some of the white splotching looks like variegated traits almost…
I agree, doesn’t look like a lighting issue. Your happy frog should be fine and your ph is about right.
You don’t need to transplant yet, but I would make sure to have plenty of drainage or use something like fabric pot.
Sorry 200 mL is right in between 3/4 and 1 cup of water. I read this article…
It states to water 250 mL every other day in week 1 of veg state, I figured since my plant is about a week away from that and hadn’t had water in 3 or so days that 200 mL would be an okay amount of water… Really not sure if that’s right so any info would be GREATLY appreciated. My noob skills are pretty obvious here, would love any tips so I can keep learning.
Also, here is a picture of my plant from the side! Thank you for the input, greatly appreciated. IMG_8764|375x500
Is your soil always that wet? If it is you need to back off. When that much water is applied you can drown the roots. The plants prefer the dryer side of wet if that makes sense. I made the same mistake when I started, the article said water this much this often so I did. Luckily I found this forum and learned that is not necessarily correct. Lift your pot today and feel how heavy it is. Then lift every day for a week or more. You will notice when it feels light. Then water your 200 mls.
UPDATE, this is 3 days later… I added the holes in the plastic pot on the sides and bottom for extra drainage on the first night. I haven’t added any more water and the soil is still pretty wet if I dig down about a 1/2 inch. My plant is not looking so good at all, some leaves are curling and more brown spots are appearing. I’m sure it’s because I overwatered with the 200 mL of water, is there anything at all I can do? The brown spots are making me nervous as well making me think there is something else I am doing wrong here…
Do you have that larger pot to transplant into? O would give that a shot, again making sure it will drain off well. I would also take a look at maybe checking calibration on your ph device just in case. More than likely is an issue with roots getting oxygen.
I ordered a 5 gallon fabric pot on amazon 2 days ago, they should arrive within the next week or so. I will transplant using Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil when I receive the pot then and hope it gives the roots more room to breath. Thank you for all the help!
Awesome, keep us posted!
@garrigan62 I just read your post about leaf septoria. I am growing in Fox Farms happy frog soil, this is random seed from a friend who grows local weed here in Saipan. The bottom leaves have now completely turned yellow, crunchy and fallen off. While the first 3 weeks I only had 1 drainage hole at the bottom of my plastic pot (in thread above), I have since added several more holes on the bottom and sides. When I first posted 4 days ago you can see the initial brown spotting, then I posted yesterday with the new spotting. Most people think it was poor drainage, and roots not getting enough oxygen, but does this seem to you to be leaf septoria?
No and now that you told us that. Your plant has or was sitting in wet soil for so long the roots may have taken up to many nutrients. with the bottom leaves turning yellow and chrispy sounds more like Nutrient Burn. ( WERE YOUR LEAVES DROOPY ? ) That’s a big sign of to much water.
If can transplant them into clean soil i’ll bet they take off for ya.
Let me know what you do or have done…OK?

@garrigan62, yes after I watered the leaves were droopy for a couple days. The plant has seemed to recover as I have put it in a 5-gallon pot with FFOF soil. Except now I feel I’m running into a pest problem… Can anyone take a look at these tiny tiny white specks that showed up on my plant today? The back looks fine, I have pretty good eye sight and I can’t see any bugs or specks but maybe I need a microscope to be sure?!

@Watt-Sun @Myfriendis410 @AAA Can you all please take a look at the pictures I posted today and try to identify what these tiny white specks could be? I posted a picture of the bottom of one of the leaves, I looked at the bottoms of all of them and I cannot see anything at all. It could be too soon, these spots did show up just today. They definitely were not there yesterday.
