First time growers journey

So i replied about these seedlings yesterday before i could post. I was advised to transplant them to their big pots, which im about to do, but omg they look bad this morning! They were sprayed with a citric acid fungicide 2 days ago. I was told it was completely safe for pot seedlings. I dont know if that has anything to do with it. Anyone have an idea whats happening?

Could be a few things, but dry, low RH, lighting and needing a transplant are a few things to consider. :love_you_gesture:

I originally thought dry because they were both droopy and the dirt was dry so i watered them. They both perked up quickly but then the lil one flopped back down and the big ones two leaves got way worse over night

Shouldn’t be used on seedlings whether it is safe or not. I don’t believe we have ever seen even a single instance of a seedling with mold problems.

Only apply products when absolutely necessary or you might end up with unintended consequences. As for mold, it is easily managed by keeping humidity in range and providing plenty of airflow.

They should perk up with a transplant.

Root area is too shallow in those starter trays, transplant and burry them to about 1-2” below the cotylodens :love_you_gesture:

Transplant to final home in a cannabis friendly soil they will bounce back no problem. Happy growing !

I used the fungicide because over night one of my seedlings grew really fluffy white mold around the top of its stem and all between the leaves. I immediately removed that seedling but was concerned about mold spores infecting the rest. The humidity in my tent is around 40% but i think i over sprayed in their dome that day.

A dilute peroxide spray is highly effective, inexpensive, and very safe.

Managing humidity and providing sufficient airflow will prevent it from happening at all.

So i want to make a post about this whole first time grow like i see some other people have done, you guys give great advice and encoragement on them. However, i have to wait until tomorrow, so in the meantime here is where they sit now. They have been replanted and all in their own seperate homes now. No more awful grow cups.

Question though to those using the solo cup domes, is air flow not an issue? Is the occasional lifting it up to spray enough?

Please let me clarify what I’ve previously said. Humidity should be very high for a seedling, so my “control humidity” statement probably wasn’t a good thing to say at this point. However, it is pretty rare to see mold develop on a seedling under a dome. I remove my domes a few times a day to provide fresh air to the plant.

Absolutely. Use this thread as your grow journal. We love to see them and help new growers along the way. I can change the title of the thread to something indicating that it is a grow journal if you wish. Just let me know what you would like for a journal thread title.

That would be wonderful! Id like to name it “First time growers journey- not as prepared as i thought!”

This is a long one, bear with me, theres some unhappy seedlings at the end.

Hi everyone! First time grower here and turning this call for help into a grow journal. (Ty midwestguy for your help) All advice and feedback is so welcome and appreciated! I felt like i did my research before starting this, but it turns out not all the guides were as good as one would hope and im not as super prepared as i thought. You guys have been great though! Some of this was already mentioned, but heres where ive been so far.
My set up: 5x5 grow tent, kingled 3000w grow light w/veg and bloom mode 24 inches above seedlings (was 18 but i read 24 was better), organic seed starter, and now fox farm ocean forest soil, filtered tap water ph about 60, temp stays around 75 in the day 68-70 at night, humidity usually around 45% outside the domes
I dropped my seeds in an organic seed starter mix to germinate on august 3rd. (Wish now i had gone right to the paper towel method) some sprouted, some didnt. Several of them the root popped way up out of the ground instead of the other end. (I eventually flipped them all over and they grew ok)
So i started out with these little trays i got for my garden.

They grew but their color wasnt great. I then saw people on here using the solo cups as domes. Since i had mine in these lil cups i used a clear plastic cupcake carrier as a humidity dome for them. They started to look good but then this past week one of them was overtaken by a fluffy white mold. I removed it immediately and searched the internet for what to do to protect the other ones. I was assured by a grow expert online that this citric acid fungicide spray was safe and would work so i used it. Then my poor seedlings did this.

The ones from in the dome did better.

Except this guy. I dont know if hes dying but hes not really going anywhere.

It was about this point i made my forum account and came to you guys. Based on advice i got, i transplanted my seedlings. I transplanted my lil ones too because i found a touch of white mold on the outside of one of those stupid brown grow cups. Will never use those again. This is how we look after transplant.

Its now about 8 hours since i transplanted and i wasnt expecting real improvement this fast but im bummed its getting worse. The biggest one is getting droopier and the discoloration is now on others.

I hope they all pull through! This wait and see is hard, patience is not one of my virtues.

Welcome fellow MN’er Scarlet! I hope your girls recover and make a turnaround! I can’t offer you a lot of info/insight as I’m in the starting weeks of my first grow as well. Did you do a big watering when you transplanted them into your grow bags? The soil looks really wet. But hopefully you’ll get some good info and insight shortly from the more experienced growers in here!

I got the soil damp as i filled the bucket/bag but didnt water after transplanting, just misted in the lil cup dome.

So the bottom 2 leaves are not coming back from this i assume, but the top leaves arent looking so bad. Still pointing down more than id like but not bad, i think.
But omg! I am once again plagued by fluffy white mold!!

I dont get why… i made a seperate help me post about the mold though. Just very frustrated and hope it doesnt pop up on the others as well.

Scarlet, there’s also a Facebook group for Minnesota growers if you haven’t signed up for that at all. Some good information from people on there as well.

My 2 cents. Pop a hole in the top of those cups, give them a good spritz of water, kick up the temp to 85…then take the caps off tomorrow and transplant to there forever home , they will Veg fine. Give the soil a good watering and leave it alone until it “dries out”…I’m on my first grow, went through the same struggle. Your good gromie!

The girls are dryer now (still drying some soil in the center) im still not watering them directly and havent put the domes back on. But they now look like this. Is this still a water issue? Am i burning them with my fox farms ocean forest soil? I have some happy frog coming tomorrow for my other seedlings when they transplant but would these guys be better moved to the happy frog mix as well?

well transplanting them could be a good idea

I have heard that FFOF is too rich in nutrients for seedlings

You can always put the happy frog at the top of the pot and the FFOF at the bottom so by the time the roots reach it the plant will be able to handle all the nutrients better

The second plant has a couple of brown tips it didn’t have on the photo you previous shared
Could be nute burn? Maybe
I’m not sure sorry

For now transplanting them as soon as possible sounds like a good idea
