First Time Grower Grow Journal - Here we go!

Good afternoon everybody!

I’m a first time grower and thought it’d be a good idea to start a grow journal since we have so many awesome experts in this forum. I know there definitely will be a bit of a learning curve! lol

I currently have 2 strains germinating (wet paper towel method): GSC Extreme, and Skywalker OG (feminized seeds, not auto)

Here’s what my setup is looking like:

I’ll be growing in a Vivosun 48"x24"x60"

Here’s a look on the inside:

  • 1200w Full Spectrum LED (Should be sufficient for only 2 plants?)
  • Vivosun Carbon Filter (waiting for them to send the inline exhaust fan any day now)
  • Extra Clamps and Ducting (not pictured)
  • 6" Oscillating Fan
  • Temp and Humidity Gauge
  • Heating Mat for seedlings (under tray)

I went with Advanced Nutrients:

I’m planning on using Rockwool as my grow medium.

Really looking forward to learning from you all! Thank you for letting me part of the community!

I’ll update in a day or two when I see how many of the seeds have sprouted :slightly_smiling_face:

Happy Growing, all!
Sergio

Welcome to the forum. That light isn’t that much wattage as its the leading in misinformation on Amazon or wherever you got the light from. Most of us got suckered. :pensive:

I definitely imagined they embelleshed a bit lol I saw a few YouTube reviews of the light though, and they definitely said it did it’s job especially for only a single plant or two.

With this whole mandatory Quarantine I’m on a bit tighter of a budget than usual, so I’m hoping this will suffice 'til I’m able to upgrade. Hoping to do a light upgrade by the time I’m ready to flower.

But…with that being said, I do have more LED’s on hand that I can always put in the tent if needs be 'til then. :slightly_smiling_face:

Once money isn’t tight, HLG lights are awesome. Under my Viparspectra PAR600 my max weight was 3.32 oz dried, cured and no stems.

Under my 2 HLG lights I just cleared 27 oz between 3 plants. It was a complete jungle.

Very cool, brother. I really appreciate your advice!

Good morning everybody! So, after 2 days of using the paper towel method, here’s what we have going on.

The Skywalker OG seeds are sprouting beautifully:

The GSC Extreme, however, has barely begun:

I’m planning on transplanting them both into Rapid Rooters, but I wanted everyone’s opinion on the GSC Extreme. Should I transplant it as is into the Rapid Rooter since many people germinate seeds in them, or should I give the GSC another day or two in the moist paper towel to put them in the plug?

Thanks all!

Seeds have been transplanted to Rapid Rooters and placed in the tent over a heating mat. The Skywalkers on the left are already sprouting through, the GSCs on the right are taking their sweet ass time lol!

Day 4 update: I installed the carbon filter and inline fan, so the tent is fully equipped!

2 of the Skywalker OG’s (left) and 1 of the GSC Extremes (right) have sprouted. I’ll give the other GSC another day or two until I call it a dud.

I’m managing to control the humidity quite well, but can’t get the tent lower than 80 degrees F while the lights are on. This is with one oscillating fan constantly running. Never thought I’d need 2 for this small of a tent, but I’m guessing better put another on the opposite site of the tent?

What do you all suggest?

Just a quick update…all 4 have sprouted! Have to decide which 1 or 2 to give to a buddy of mine, because no way I can fit 4 full grown plants in this particular tent. lol!

Still no luck lowering the temp, so I’m thinking I’ll have to get a second oscillating fan for the opposite side of the tent. That should hopefully do the trick.

Hope you all are staying safe and healthy!

To lower the temp, you need to exhaust the warm air to somewhere else and bring in fresh air, adding another fan to just blow air around inside the tent is not going to help your temps.

Really appreciate your reply!

I just installed an inline exhaust fan/carbon filter, so hopefully that’ll do the trick. I need to lower it by about 10 degrees.

I’ll keep everyone updated!

The girls have been transplanted and are looking great so far!

Skywalker OG:

GSC Extreme:

My buddy just told me he made me a clone of his Gorilla Zkittlez plant, as well, so it looks like a third sister will be joining the group this weekend!

Hope you all are doing as best you can in this craziness. Be safe! I’ll update again soon!

Week 2 of Veg update! Looks like the girls are moving along quite well!

Close-up of the Skywalker OG: (the bottom leaves aren’t damaged, it was just a real harsh shadow lol)

Close-up of the GSC Extreme:

So far so good I think! I should be getting the Gorilla Zkittlez clone this week to add to the mix, so I’ll keep everyone updated.

Stay safe!

Beginning of week 4 (Veg), everybody! How are they looking so far? Since this is my first grow I’m not sure if they’re looking around where they should be at this point? Would really appreciate your feedback!

GSC Extreme:

Skywalker OG:

Going to try to snap a few pics under natural lighting. These LED’s really throw the colors off in photos! lol

Hope you all are staying safe!

Added the 3rd girl yesterday! I’m a bit anxious because my buddy cloned his plant in soil, so yesterday I did my best to safely transplant her from soil to rockwool. It’s been 24hrs though and she’s still looking perky and vibrant, so, I’m thinking positive! I’ve really been dying to try Gorilla Zkittlez, so, I really hope she makes it! Worst case scenario, maybe I could make a clone of his clone?

Gorilla Zkittles:

Good afternoon everybody! I haven’t been updating my journal much since no one seems to have really been following, but figured I’d throw a few progress pics up just for the hell of it.

I set up my Scrog net last week and they acclaimated nicely!

So, to recap, it’s 1 GSC Extreme, 1 Skywalker OG, and 1 (smaller) Gorilla Zkittlez that my buddy of mine gave me as a clone of his plant. I let my GSC and Sky veg for longer than I’d have liked, but was trying to let the GZ catch up a bit, but at this point, they’re getting so big that I’m going to flip them to flower this coming week or else they’re liable to outgrow the tent.

The whole shebang:

A close-up of the Skywalker OG:

I apologize for the purple overtones (full spectrum LED is throwing off the color a bit, but they are a vibrant green!). I’m definitely going to retuck some more before switching to flower, but in general I’m really happy with the way they’re looking and responding. Not too terrible for a first-time grower?

Hope everyone is safe and well!
