Understand. I was simply curious what works for you. I admit, my approach is a little different. It is like pulling a heavy trailer up a steep grade. You don’t want to be short on power. That is also how I like my lights. If I don’t need it all, I use the dimmer. But deep down, if I want to burn them up, I have the juice to do it. I have a 400 watt fixture I bought specifically to go over a 2x2 frame. I did it because the ppfd over the middle four square feet is what I was looking for. Likewise in my 32"x72" closet I have 3 HLG 260 Rspecs. Right now the plants are in late veg and I them drawing around 200. I will turn them up a bit when I go to flower. Light’em up!
And yours also makes sense to me.
It’s all good. This forum is just the best because you see and hear everything everyone does. From using BB guns to bazookas…and everywhere in between.
There are some things that can’t be compromised like pH and how to water… but other things are up to the individual and there are enough experienced growers here from pragmatic growers (like me) to highly technical growers with top of the line equipment, that you can learn to be successful more than just one way.
Again, love love growing this stuff!!
Amen to that. It is a blast to watch
Welcome to the Community ! 9 plants in a 4 ×4 space that’s gonna be tight. I like to allow a 2 x2 space for each plant. From my experience you will probably get as much or more yield with 4 plants. Just my thoughts good luck my friend !
I use Photone on my iPhone, however if you do not pay for your specific light design the reading will incredibly inaccurate, it comes free with incandescent bulb setting, fluorescent, and cfl, all other light design tests must be purchased. We did compare the app with a ecosense labs photometer that cost nearly $1000, on all the settings Photone offers - CCT(kelvin), PPFD umol/m2/s, DLI mol/m2/d, and ILLUMINANCE lux. We compared test results on each device using the same full spectrum LED lamp. In this case it was a growers choice 720 wired @ 220v. I was shocked when the app tests showed almost identical values at each setting VS the actual photometer. The readings were all within 3% of each other.
I did have to make a “diffuser” as described within the Photone app, I can’t remember the exact paper I had to use, 22lb I think and small piece of invisible tape… the instructions are on the app.
In short, spend the $5 for the full spectrum LED setting on the Photone app. Invaluable information that’s very important when determining where your lights should be hung.
