Noticed a little bit of yellowing on lower leaves last week so I fed them cal mag on the 14th and some tiger bloom on the 18th. On the 20th I check them in the morning and they are all having extreme amounts of yellowing. I flushed them thinking either the ph was off or too many nutes and now today they look even worse, did I ruin this batch and if I did how do I prevent it in the future? The individual pics are from yesterday the group pic today.
Do you check your run off ph and ppm’s?
When you see all the plants in the tent suffer the same way then you have to conclude there is a problem in the process. A single plant suffering might just be a minor problem but this is something you are doing wrong.
So we need to know your whole setup and methods to help.

i have a soil ph pen otw will be here the 22nd to get a more accurate reading than just guessing if the shade of yellow in the vial looks right. what is all the PPM/TDS stuff? those are new terms to me. sorry if thats a dumb question like i said first time and honesly have no clue what im doing. i feel so in over my head
Be patient with yourself, you have some great growers giving you great advice. Many of us (myself included) had never grown anything before. The many fine folks here teach us the craft and before you know it…You are growing the best buds that you have ever experienced. All of the jargon will make perfect sense to you soon enough.
Welcome to our community of growers.
Six years ago, I was exactly where you are now, a complete beginner.
This was the grow that I just chopped.
@Hootbirb I learned everything that I know about growing cannabis from the kind and generous growers on this forum.
Those are beautiful!!! Well done! i cant wait to get there one day!
First, welcome aboard!!
Next, pH… pour your drops out, chunk the vial you shake the liquid in. Cancel the soil meter as well. PH is very important for nutrient uptake and a reliable, preferably digital meter is necessary to measure pH. Apera and BlueLab are great brands, though they can be pricey. Cannabis prefers a range of 6.2 - 6.8 when grown in soil. Starting on the low end for seedling and veg, and increasing for flower.
Next, PPM. PPM stands for Parts Per Million. TDS is Total Dissolved Solids. This is the amout of nutrients you have in your water. TDS meters are relatively cheap, and can help save your grows. It is important to know how much your plant is recieving, or the input. Then there is runoff. That is the excess water/nutrients that run out of the pot/bag when feeding. Roughly 1,000ppm in and out is a general rule of thumb when feeding.
Maintaining both pH and PPM going in and out is crucial for a healthy, thriving plant.
Your light is great for your grow. You can pull 730w from the wall, and Mars Hydro is a good, reputable brand. Many growers here have that model or similar. Which brings me to…
Do you know your PPFD? This is how much light your plant is recieving. There is an app you can download called Photone that is relatively easy to use, and within like 15% accuracy. Real LUX meters can be expensive.
Lastly, are you using the full line of Fox Farms nutrients? I noticed you mentioned Tiger Bloom, but the Fox Farms Trio is meant to all be used together. Only using one or two parts for feeding results in lack of the big 3, NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium) and other macro nutrients necessary for healthy plants.
Sorry to be so long winded! I really hope some of this helps! Good luck and happy growing!
I have the bluelabs soil ph pen on the way so I should be good to not cancel that order right? I wanted one from the get go but the tent setup sucked up all my funds. My mom ordered me the blue labs one yesterday as a early birthday gift
As for the PPM/TDS is that the same test meters or do I need two separate testers for each one? Any particular cheap brands to that you know work well? I’m quite low on cash at the moment.
Just used the app you recommended, its reading 420(lol) PPFD at canopy height. I’m not sure what number I should be aiming for though.
I am not using the full line. I was lead to believe the nature’s living soil had everything the plants would need from start to finish until they started the yellowing so I panicked and got what I could afford which was only cal mag and tiger bloom. Won’t be able to get any other bottles until the 23rd and shipping will probably take a few days on top of that. Should I try getting the rest of the line to see if that perks them up? Or at least get the rest of the line for the next grow? Either I didn’t use the living soil right or it doesn’t work as well as I read. Really confused about that part.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and share your knowledge! Just reading your reply made me realize how much there is to learn and I feel I’m in the right place to learn it here!
No lie, good on mom. I’m fairly certain those are fine for liquid measurements. You want to know the pH of your plain water before giving, and your mixed nutrients before feeding.
Duuuuuude lol. Ok, so number needs to be about double for full on flower stage. Can you increase your intensity (dimmer knob) or can you lower your light. Most manufacturers recommend about 15-18" from canopy level at x percentage to achieve the proper PPF.
150-300ppf for seedlings
350-600 for veg
600-900 for flower
Ok, so I missed the natures living soil and only saw the FF soil in the ticket. I am personally cooking my first actual batch of living soil, so you have a jump on me. But, in most cases with living soils, some kind of NPK top dressing is needed around the switch from veg to flower. I know with mine, i have to add a bloom booster twice around the time. I couldn’t tell you which way to go with your particular recipe. I’ll tag a couple growers for help here.
@LiesGrows, @Caligurl, @Covertgrower would and of you happen to have a little insight on Natures Living soil mixed with FFOF?
There is a lot to learn. It can get overwhelming at times. Patience is your best friend most of fhe time. Buuuut, this forum, is amongst the best. Nicest growers. Just use the “@” symbol to tag others.
That is an excellent pH pen. I have one. It can be used for direct soil pH measurement as well as in the water and nutrient mix. I have Extech combo pen for everyday use.
I’m having some issues growing indoors. I’ve had a couple grows. Been learning. Now I’m having another issue. I use dyna gro nutrients n distilled water. I ph at 6.3. I use fox farms happy frog soil. But I seem to have some leaves showing brown spots in week 5 of flowering. They are also some yellowing in my leaves. It’s a god’s gift. I have a sleepy joe who seems fine. Can anyone help?
Welcome to the group. Always try and post pictures if you can. There’s alot of experienced people that can help, but they can help alot more if they see your plants.
Welcome to the community, fellow Growmie!
I’m a newbie imho and have 5 grows under my belt. I used NLS/FFOF super soil method on my 3rd grow and had the same experience with them starving a week or so into flower. I think for enough nutes in the soil to last until harvest, it may need to be mixed hotter than the instructions. Not sure, haven’t tried that yet. I’ve continued to use NLS (Reg & Auto) and some of their other products sinse but using the living soil method now.
I didn’t use Fox Farms Trio or any synthetic nutes once I switched to the NLS, that’s when I switched to organic dry nutrients. But when the yellowing started, all I had was sythetic nutes but I had some FF Ocean Forest soil left over so even though I was in flower, I top dressed it with a half a cup (more or less) and calmag (of course, always calmag) and that saved them until I could get some NLS Girl Flower Power shipped.
My plants suffered by the time I got the PPMs back up but they survived. They’re definitely some tough little ladies. Happy growing!
I can increase the intensity, its sitting about 80% because I was having some heat issues. Guess I’ll have to run the 100% and just figure out the heat issue separately. Would increasing the intensity now not hurt them as bad as they look though?
I have this and when I used it literally the day after the yellowing started. I applied it via the tea method. Maybe I did it wrong? Mixed it with a gal of water and the unsulphered molasses and let it sit overnight. I’m half convinced the NLS Girl flower power was the start of all my issues.
How far from the tops of the plants is your light?
What do you want to know about NLS amendments and FF soil???
I do not but I have never worried about mixing soils… I like my recipe420 but I blend it with bulk raised bed soil all the time.
