First Harvest Trichome Help

Was thinking I was still a few weeks from harvest but one of my early flowering autos looks like she may be in or nearing the window?

Top Left plant (Bertha)

I was hoping to harvest everyone at once and just have varying ripeness and effects. Don’t want to hold her off too long though and my two that flowered at the expected time are still all clear and just starting to show red hairs. How long is the typical safe harvest window?

@MedLifeCrisis Jmho here. But you could safely give it another week. Possibly 2 depending how it ripens just based on ur pics.

Generally accepted as a 3 ish week span.
Early. Mid. And later harvest.
Based on personal preference.

Thanks! What signs would I look for in a week to say it may need to be chopped before 2 weeks? They flowered about a week apart but the larger two haven’t really slowed down on feed yet and this one did over a week ago when something weird happened with it’s base.

No more white pistils popping out. I’m still seeing a few here and there.
They should mostly recede back into the buds.

You’ll start seeing more ambers thru the loupe when you scope them.

Cool article with some good close up shots and info to aid in your harvest timing.

Thanks again! That’s good to know, hopefully I can get 2 weeks out of her and I think that’ll time out about perfect for the others to harvest everyone at once. Kind of just want to buy a drying tent but probably won’t be as critical after I switch to photos. Autos have turned out to be trickier than advertised for beginners even going into harvest timing.

I like when they are all cloudy and about 10% amber. The hairs are not a good way to judge maturity. Just check them every couple days and youll be all set. Congrats

Thanks! Yeah I’ll definitely keep watching. Reading the link on the post above helped me better understand what they meant by Amber and not seeing that quite yet. Since the two smaller plants flowered early I was going to let them go a little long to provide a sleep/sedation effects and because I plan to dry in the same tent with a mesh rack. It’s been a really cool process and already have my photos for the second grow.

The 3 weeks ripening is a solid timescale :ok_hand:

Worth noting they will mature further (say 10-20%) after harvest. Your milkys will get milkier after chop

Thanks! Just so I’m on the same page, 3 weeks from now or 3 weeks from when pistols start to turn red?

When pistols are all red i start checking, but i grow photos and anything goes with autos.

All you can do is keep an eye and keep posting for opinions. Not ready yet tho

A little update. Pushed Abby a little too far and she’s showing some signs of nute burn. Going to switch her over to flawless finish and sensizym tomorrow for the rest of the grow, but wondering if I’m in the harvest window and could just go ahead and chop. Here’s photos from my 2 plants that are less ripe than the others. Definitely still some white pistols, but a lot of red too and ready to harvest these ladies before I do something stupid.

Here’s an update on Bertha as well. I have all my plugs in the way to get trichomes on Abby unfortunately, but she’s around on track with Bertha.

@Dinky @OGIncognito Would love to get your thoughts on my late night Trichome post above. One of my girls went into some kind of pH or nutrient shock last night and woke up to a scary number of shriveled leaves. Hoping I can maybe safely push up harvest to get her before more damage but also don’t want to harvest my two biggest plants early. Definitely need a separate drying tent but won’t have one today unfortunately. Here’s photos of the shock in talking about.

@MedLifeCrisis jeez a lot changes in 6 days eh?

I really dont have advice for what to do to fix this. Ive no experience whatsoever with autos and i dont know what brought it like this. When my leaves are getting like that its cos the plants at its end, but you still have white pistols out there and that would make me not harvest.

That being said, i dont see your plants having any leaves left two weeks from now and the fact that your sugar leaves are burning too would have me moving quicker.

Personally if they were mine and i didnt know what was going on, i would cross my fingers and let it ride until those leaves have nothing left, OR if my sugar leaves are getting gnarly lookin. Your trichome pics show your sooo so close to the window, speedy high albeit but thats ok :ok_hand:

Sorry i couldnt offer actual advice your buds are beautiful

Thanks! I’m pretty sure it’s a salt issue from chasing an earlier calcium deficiency. She was swinging to near nitrogen toxicity just before so the immediate switch to yellow and shriveling after a light feed was pretty scary. End of life is wild though and it’s going to give me a complex for sure. I’ll keep letting her ride for a few days at least and keep monitoring leaves. You think they’re still 2 ish weeks from harvest? They’re on week 9/10 and I was hoping to harvest in the next week but definitely don’t want a super racey anxious high.

Honestly i couldnt tell ya with the white pistols there when to harvest, my cue is when they’re all gone, your buds look mature tho and the trichomes are the main decider. And by the looks of those pics you could be days away from the window. But its obviously being a slow mover so who knows right?:man_shrugging:

I use Flawless Finish from AN for salt build up, its meant to be used in the final week before harvest to clear salts from the roots but its handy anytime really. Just use with water, comes in 250ml bottles really cheap and lasts a long time

Nice, yeah I’m thinking I’ll pull the trigger by Monday probably and just have a varying scale if ripeness to try since it’s the first go. Feels like they keep popping new white pistols, but the lower portion of buds on the two later flowering plants are definitely just starting to ripen

That’s funny you said that, I actually popped open my flawless finish this morning and gave her a dose right after this post thinking it might draw some of the excess nutrients out. Wasn’t sure if it was snake oil though and was getting worried maybe I shouldn’t have thrown something else at it so quick. Glad to know it helps with salt breakup as well. I plan to run Sensizym the whole time next grow and monitor ppm so hoping I’ll avoid this in the future.

It definitely helps make sure to get a decent run off.

I’ve been feeding everything through the AC Infinity autowatering wick bases. I am going to switch to drench though next grow to be able and monitor TDS/pH now that I have a meter. The bases felt good in theory but have been kind of a pain to deal with and make monitoring harder. Plan to water to 20% runoff on the next grow.
