My first unit came not working. Sensor push sent me a replacement two days over a weekend super fast email response communication etc. And someone at amazon accidentally sent me a second I emailes them and they said keep it.

Shopping…

Think I have all the major items on-hand or on-order to outfit the grow room… fan, vent tunes, clamps, filter, etc, etc. Grabbed some 6" x 14" wall/ceiling registers at one of the home stores… Measured the effective openings and totaled the effective area, and it’s just over 57 sq. in… which is better than 4x the 12+ sq. in of the 4" ducting cross-section.

Grabbed several kinds of gasket seals for the door and one of those under door light/draft blocking deals with the 2-pocket bag and foam rods to try and seal up the leaks.

STILL need pretty much ALL of the germination, seedling, containers, catch trays, et al. supplies… and of course media.

Sure does add up!!

I would LIKE to be ready to start BEFORE my order from ILGM shows up, but I’m not sure I am gonna make it. :grimacing::beer::beers:

Got the first Fresh Air Supply vent cut in to the closet today… It’s a 6" x 14" ceiling/wall register with measured effective area at full open of 57-58 sq in.

Slight issue… the vent on the other side of the wall is going to be less hidden than intended… a lot less. Like plain view… 3 feet from where the boss rests her precious head. If she balks at the location and visibility, I’ll have to go UP the wall, build a bypass fillet in the top back corner and rock , tape, float it in. THEN, I’ll have to build a box in the shape of a ā€œCā€ to come up from the fillet, over two joists and back down around a register in the parent room. Simply not enough headroom in the attic for 8" insulated duct work.

Silver lining IF I have to do it the hard way… Simply burying the new box in the existing insulation will keep it cooler and make it virtually invisible.

MAN, I hope she lets me cut it into the wall… It’s hot (and tight) up in that attic…

Vortex fan, 4" flex duct, relays, Low Speed Fan Controller, filter and ProMix HP all showed up at once in a big pile today… Fortunately, piles of boxes are not unusual here.

Still need to buy an air pump, hose, and stone to aerate the nutrient mixes…

Any suggestions as to brand and size? They’re a lot more expensive than the last time I bought one.

Oh… and the gaskets on the door ain’t gonna work… no way to get zero light AND be able to latch the door. I’m going to pull them off and custom mould some using silicone and Vaseline on the door. It’ll cure to the frame. Squish out when door is pushed to, and the Vaseline will allow the door to open after cure.

A small cheap pump is plenty. I’m not home to look at model number on mine, but I believe it was cheapest one hydro store had.

I’m a soil grower currently but plan to start experimenting with dwc system in the near future.

I’m just using it to aerate the nutrients before/between use(s). I’m growing in ProMix HP and hand feeding.

This is the pump someone else suggested, I will be buying it soon.

@AAA… that’s probably a LOT of overkill for me in simply mixing/circulating a 5-7 gal bucket at most, but at least it comes with the manifold with valves to shut off the unused ports…

Oh I see. I don’t use a bubble stone with the nectar of the gods. Although, I bet it would keep the mix from going bad after a day or two! Lol. If I had a bubble stone, would it preserve the mix? Not familiar with the use of the bubble stone in organic nutrients yet. Am I missing something?

You never know, I’m an overkill kind of guy. My wife is French, been here for 6 years. She used to look at me like I’m crazy, now she understands my need for the extreme.

@Drillbit - I’m preparing for long term using Jack’s. I’m not into ā€œorganicā€ enough to buy water in plastic bottles. Plus, the powders store in smaller space (which is at a premium) and have a longer shelf life. And I think I will like having the additional control of mixing my own…

Don’t know about NFTG, but keeping an aeration pump going in the nute bucket between feedings keeps the O2 level up and reduces precipitation, et al.

@AAA - I am an OCD over-engineer from wayyyyy back!

Leaving the intake ā€œissueā€ alone for the moment…

Putting my carbon filter external to the grow room, the instructions say to put the pre-filter INSIDE the filter…

Anyone ever done this? How? Seems like it will be a rather large flow impediment not being stretched out…

Since I will have a grill/vent fixture in the ceiling of the grow room, would it not be better to put the pre-filter there… easier to change/clean, too.

Can any of you Lab members tell me how long it should take after I’ve joined before I can get access to the Forum? I’ve already finizhed all the course reading and am looking for more.

It can happen in as little as day or two. If you joined around weekend may add a few days.

Lab… I’m on… more to read! Yea!

Shopping today… I’ve decided to go a little different way with the intake… In the last closet photo above, you can see the supply air vent at the floor in the grow room. I WAS going to go offset through the wall, but that makes it VERY visible from the master bedroom (kinda ugly actually… and unusual), so…

In the master, I am going to move over to the next ā€œbayā€ in the wall near the corner and behind an end table and put the vent in down near the floor. MUCH lest visible and coolest air in the room.

To get the air from one bay to the next, I am building a crossover box from 1/4" MDF with an area and cross section that won’t impede airflow. It will be installed with REMOVABLE fasteners and a foam seal in the TOP of the closet across the two bays. Air flows in the MBR vent, up the inside of the wall, through the box, and back down the inside of the second bay and OUT the vent in the closet.

This will meet aesthetics requirements, guarantee zero light transmission, and also act as an excellent ā€œmufflerā€ to keep sound from traveling back into the MBR.

So… bought a 2’ x 4’ sheet of 1/4" MDF, white satin enamel paint, TB II wood glue, Gorilla glue, 4 small ā€œLā€ brackets, a foam seal, and some wall anchors… and some other unrelated stuff for other parts of the closet.

I’ll also put a filter sandwiched between the box and the seal that will filter out any dust, spores, et al. from the air supply.

I’ll add pics when I finish it… the box and installation.

Thanks @dbrn32… but I already joined last week. Already blasted through all the courses for the first of several runs through, and got my link to the forums this morning.

Even at full price, I consider it a bargain!:sunglasses:
