Day 23 from sprout
I had some time this weekend to spend with the plants and decided to up the amount of water I gave them and to start LST on one of them.
I think the watering went fine. I went with 2 gallons split between the three plants as opposed to 1 gallon. The soil on top is still damp but starting to dry out so I think it was decent amount. I increased the CalMag by 1ml/gallon and the Gro and Micro by a tiny .25ml/gallon. I figured since I was doubling up the amount of water they were getting I didn’t want to increase either by too much.
The LST went well too but I could definitely use some opinions. There were two methods I’m interested in learning: topping and tie-down (is that what it’s called?). My #1 plant is a little tall and spindly, so I thought I would leave her alone. #2 is the healthiest and strongest looking so I’m thinking of topping her. Her fifth set of multiple leaves is just opening up so I’m thinking of waiting a few more days and topping her sixth as it comes out, does that sound right? #3 had a lean to her stem already so I decided to start LSTing her and tying her down a bit. I’m really unsure if I’m doing it correctly and it feels awkward. She responded in a day though and one of her lower interior node’s leaves is much larger than any of the others. Is it a problem that her leaves are up against the fabric pot or slightly touching the soil?
#2 (you can see the fifth set are just widening out) (day 23 from sprout)
#3 (tied down a bit)
#3 (can see the interior growth is a bit larger)

Day 30 from sprout
Hi again. I took a trip and left the girls alone for three days, I was nervous coming back but things are looking really good.
First off, I gave up the LST on #3. I was doing some tie-downs and holding back leaves. I could never get comfortable with it. I was constantly adjusting it and messing with it. I decided to give it up and removed everything. #3 is doing just fine, she has a little curve in her stem I think and some bushy inner nodes.
I went ahead and topped #2 before I left. I wanted to leave here alone and come back to see the difference. I’d been waiting for 5 multi-leaved nodes to appear and I took the sixth one off.
#2 immediately after topping on day 25
It was a little early to water but I split a gallon among them so they’d have something while I was gone. The growth over three days was really surprising to me. The topping worked so well I’ve decided to top the other two as well.

#2 with lots going on under the canopy
What does everyone think of this picture? Are these the same plant? #2’s leaves look thicker to me while #1’s are skinnier. I purchased them and they came from the same strain. But I wonder if there was a mix up?

Day 36 from sprout
The topping continues to impress me. #2 is showing two strong tops now. Instead of doing the other two I wanted to try an experiment. I FIM’d #3 and left #1 alone. I want to see how the yields will vary. #3 took longer to show recovery from the FIMing but I think the new growth is finally there.
#2’s two strong tops
#3’s new growth after FIM
I fed them shortly after my last update, but before the FIMing and just now #3 is also showing signs of burn on a few leaf tips. I checked the chart and I’m going with maybe a Potassium or Phosphorous excess? The stress of FIM isn’t helping I’m sure. My thinking is next feed I’ll back off on the nutrients or maybe just give them pH’d water.
Other than that everyone is looking healthy I think. It has been four days since a feeding and the soil still feels a bit damp, little worried about that, so I might give them another couple days before feeding.

#3 - I like how symmetrical she looks here
I’ve started to tie down some of the inner growth on all three of them to get some light to the interior. I had real issues tying them down earlier on and eventually gave up. It’s come easier now that there are so many stems to move around and position better.
I’m really enjoying the hobby, I wish there were more people to talk to about it though.

Same process used and 4 out of 4 sprouted. Great method of germinating for sure!
To tie down or not to tie down is a question only you can decide on. I personally tied my plants down. But I also did the scrog method with my three. As mine are nearing the end. I’m glad I tied them down. Getting nice full buds on my three. All I can say is try both and see what works for you. I topped mine and tried fimming. I prefer fimming. The results were better for what I wanted. But at one point I want to not do anything to a plant and see how it goes. Never scrogged before and that was a good learning experience for me. My screen isn’t perfectly filled up but have lots of nice buds filled out. Learning and seeing is the best experience you can get. You will know what you want on following grows. Like everyone at one time. Experiment and learn. That will make you a better grower for years to come.
Good luck.
