#1 Grow and #1 Grow journal
Indoor/outdoor DIY greenhouse
Setting up for perpetual grow
Growing accordance with state law and maximum allowed plants for two households. Some of the plant names mentioned in this article have been changed to protect the innocent.
I will identify plants by their strain name as-well as # for easier records. #’s in (parentheses).
Plants-
3 Unknown Bag seeds-Out of soil on 3/30 (O, L, and M)
3 gorilla glue Fem by ILGM 5/5-(1, 2, and 3)

1 northern lights- (8) local
Indoor- 4x4x7’ Vivisun for flower and 2x4x5’ Ohuhu for veg. Average RH 54.7% temp 71.8. Usually about a 5 degree difference day and night.
Outdoor- DIY green house. Lumber from homedepot, UV resistant 4 year GH Plastic amazon. Framed up and fenced in with bunny wire. The GH is 8x8x10’ which I stapled/ tapped the GH plastic over structure. Raised garden in the works, Fabric pots for now. 2 yards topsoil brought in, trying to figure out the best way to amend it organically and suite it best for cannabis.
Bugs-neem oil mix applied very lightly once a week at night, to older plants That are well into their vegetative stage. Also fox farm don’t bug me around the greenhouse
Location/climate/ Natural community -Northeastern United States
Humid summers, dry freezing cold winters, weather can change rapidly, but happens mostly in the spring and fall. 40 inches of rain 70 inches of snow annually. average for this time of year RH 60 to 80 during day and Temp at Night 64 day 74 (May and June)
CO2?- proCO2 100%organic 1500ppm for 10x10 cubic feet space. yes a bucket of CO2…honestly I thought it was going to smell bad, but it has no scent at all. I’ve never slept better at night…haha jk, i vent it outside. But, that’s a problem within itself. What’s the use of sucking out all the CO2 with my inline fan before it reaches my plants? Maybe it’s working lol.
Mesic red oak- Northern hardwood forest my DIYGreen house is set up in my back yard on the edge of this natural community, which provides huge strong hardwood oaks and maples that aid in wind protection and shade for my greenhouse plants. Too much shade sometimes!
Water- My “hard”tap water is from a municipal source and has a PH of 7.3-8. It gets run through a water softener then a charcoal RV filter and reads about 7.3 on a good day. In the beginning I watered once with it without testing and without PH down. my plants got nutrient lockout and I had to flush with Poland springs bottled water from Maine. Poland springs has a of PH 6.31, but it gets expensive! I used it for 2 weeks before I found a natural spring that is well known for being a source of water for cannabis plants in my area, and that’s all I use now. I might start using my tap water if I get sick of traveling to the spring lol.
Soil- FFOF mostly
Northernlights in compost/supersoil bought at local grow shop.
Some plants mixed-FFOFwith sunshine advanced #4
Topsoil- 2 yards delivered 6/10, working on it
Nutrients- FF trio, haven’t really used this except the organic big bloom At 15ml per gallon PH to 6.5 with PH down, every other watering with plants 3 weeks and older depending on health. Has bat guano earthworm casting in it which just kind of boasts my Veg growth a bit. That with FFOF soil, myco stuff, and photosynthesis plus has been more then I need for nutrients going on 60 plus days with my Oldest outdoor greenhouse Plant that is almost 4 feet tall in a 15 gal fabric pot!
Dynomyc- myco fungi for my roots so they can have a Symbiotic relationship and work together😉
Microbe life hydroponics-Photosynthesis plus- spray on fabric pots when transplanting/ roots / foliar spray (only at night and don’t go over board, I’ve only used it a handful of times) the stuff smells like caca but works great when used right! It promotes biological function plant vigor, and helps Your plants kick ass.
Light cycle-Indoors 18/6 vegetative growth. Have not done any 12/12 to induce flowering yet for my photoperiod plants
Outdoors- Greenhouse 6 plants outside and about 8 hours of diffused sunlight a day. It would be direct, but I use that UV resistant poly plastic crap for greenhouses.
Indoor Lights- Marhydro 600TS full spectrum 100w draw from wall. Wish I just got more of these lights!!
Moresen S series 600high intensity veg and bloom 123w draw from wall. Very impressed for this style of newer age blurple, but come on guys, full spectrum white led is the way to go, it’s more like the sun. No more making blurps all you blurple making light people! I shouldn’t complain, I’ve had good results in my experience, with this moresen led
Moresen m series 1000large coverage more red lights about 150w draw from wall. This has been an intense light. I can only use it for about 4 hours a day( two hours in morning two in evening) or it will start to burn my plants. Can’t wait to use if for flower where I can raise it up high enough to be effective.
more red lights about 150w draw from wall. This has been an intense light. I can only use it for about 2 hours a day.
Phillips white full spectrum 19w grow light flood light.- for the price Around 20 bucks, and being used as a germination and seedling light, I wish I bought 5 of these! I even use them to supplement some side light action For my GG with a clip to hang it up.I would be interested in someone doing a full grow with just 5 or less of these lights. I feel they are plenty powerful enough to get the job done. Home Depot has been sold out for a month after I first purchased, I’m in no need for another one but it would be nice.
Ventilation- 4” 190CFM ipower inline fan and Carbon filter. I installed the filter And had it for about a month, thentook it off because I don’t even need it yet. it just slows down my Inline fan and is harder on the motor. I’m only Going to use when I flower if I even need it. Pretty secluded where I am, plus I love the smell :). I’m In the process of setting up my inkbird to A/C and Fan to become more automated. Less work right? Humidity is raising As summer creeps up on me, so I might get a dehumidifier as well, I’m going to want one anyway When I have two tents inside full of green goodness
A/C- yes standup. hooking up air ducts and splitters to have air flow right into tents.
Automations- inkbird temp and humidity senor that works to keep your environment constant without having to adapt as the weather outside changes. It’s going in my flower tent inside but not hooked up yet. Don’t really need it until it starts really getting humid and hot.
WiFi socket plugins so I can turn on/off and set a schedual for lights A/C and Inline fan.
Repeater/ timer for intermediate run times for inline fan. I got this before the inkbird. If I can just figure out my inkbird I’ll be good…things pretty confusing to set up and I need to spend more time researching how to use the thing.
So this is my very first time growing… anything really!! I’m excited to start recording my adventure so I can better accomplish my goal of having a seasonal outside grow in my DIY Greenhouse, and perpetual grow indoors. I will mention that I am about 60 plus days into my first grow here, and I am now realizing I should have created a grow journal from the start. I will do my best to include information from the past 60 days, but if I jump around the timeline a bit don’t sue me, I’m stoned.
Let me start off by giving a little background information. This whole grow started because I recieved a bag of weed from a friend that contained two types of buds as I remember one was an outdoor like NL or something and one was a orange haired dense nug. Both buds had seeds, which is cool, but without knowing the strain or how they got pollinated I was kind of weary to plant them at first. What if it’s a hermie? Or bad genetics? Then, Very abruptly, I took the seeds, threw them in water for 36 hours til they cracked, planted them in a glass bowl with no drainage, and old soil. Put a 30w flourecent light above the soil a couple inches.
As I look back now, planting in the glass bowl was one of my biggest mistakes. no drainage makes it really difficult when Learning to water your plants. The soil doesn’t dry out which promotes overwatering with first time growers like me. I just want to keep watering like some sort of water nazi forcing my plants to uptake water and nutrients at a perfect rate of absorption. Is that too much to ask? Drink! Drink you bastards!!! I had a problem, and needed to stop my militant water practices immediately for the good of the plants. I purchased a moisture meter for 8 bucks, and followed a wet/dry watering cycle. Now I don’t water until it is in the red, and of had great results. I think I still Overwater but whatever, it’s hard not too lol.
So 3/30 I had my first sprout pop up, which sparked my interest in starting to grow. I felt like I finally did it!! And if I can make a sprout come up, then I can do anything! So I started to invest much more time and money into my Grow project. Researching online, YouTube and reading carefully in the background Of weed forums. I Kept quite, Taking down notes from people whose experiences range All the way From professional to first time growers like me. This is really where I started to make progress. Watching forums and listening to people give advice like hellriser grows guerilla glue and all the Canadians!! Haha, when it comes to learning how to actually grow cannabis, my experience has been simplified by people who take time out of their busy day; To not only record/ report on their personal grows, but to share the knowledge they have learned from years of experience by answering questions and helping others. Which is just Awesome. As the experts solve nutrient defiencies, light problems, watering issues, and more; I would Keep track and learn how to mitigate my own grow issues! To all the helpful and dedicated growers like above mentioned… speaking for first time growers reading your forums and grow journals, We all thank you!! You guys rock!!
After retaining some of the basics of what I have learned ,really it’s just been putting out fires and solving problems as they came up. Get the light, get the tent, get another light, get another ten, ventilation fan, by seeds online, Try auto flowers, All of this and more! It pretty much sums up my set up and beginning, now it’s time for some pictures!
