This is my first grow and I have 3 plants 2 birthday cake and 1 desert snow feminized. I’m having trouble as to how to check the ph in my soil as well (obviously through the runoff) but I’m already struggling with over watering or possible nitrogen toxicity so any ideas?
Its not how much you water it’s how often. So when you do, water till runoff and catch some.
Is that coco you’re growing in?
The leaves to look a bit bloated. I would transplant that one in the small pot to a bigger one.
Do you feed then water alternatively? You need to wash the salts away from the roots…
I actually don’t water often, I’ve been waiting till I know for sure that the whole pot is dry and not just the top, I know some people go by the knuckle method but the rest of the pot could still be wet so I usually go by lift and I’ll check the drainage holes to see how with the bottom is. And I’m growing in soil, ffof soil and trio nutrient line.
Sorry I’m a hudro, coco guy.
@Missiles grows in these kind of soils, maybe she could have a look…
Also temperature and humidity are all near perfect levels. I keep humidity between 40 and 70 and temperature sometimes gets a tad over 80 but 90% of the time it’s at 72 to 73 degrees.
No problem main thanks for the help anyways I wanted to do a hydro set up but to be a beginner it seemed expensive and a bit complicated for me.
Read this thread. Am following his grow method, and having amazing results. pH questions are answered on it too. I think they look fine, but you will need to make sure your water is 6.5 pH going in, to keep the plant taking in nutes from soil, and nutes.
Okay thanks for the help m8 I’ll take a look for sure. All the water that I use is ph’d before watering it’s always around 6.5 never over 7 or below 6. I wait till it’s totally dry then I’ll water till I get a small amount of runoff focusing the roots the trying to make the edges the wettest areas to encourage root growth.
I use nute mixes 2 times a week Per bottle directions the rest just plain ph’d water.
Hudro was my first real indoor grow. I brought a dwc bucket for about $70. I learnt a lot first grow. It is all relevant when it comes to other grows as well…
What kind of soil and nutrients are you using? They don’t look bad at all.
@Missiles Ffof soil and trio line, doing nutes 2 times a week, big bloom and grow big until later on Everything else I feed with is just ph’d water. Have yet to check ph of soil runoff due to lack of. There is usually just a few drops of runoff which is when I’ll stop watering due to risk of over watering. Makes it a bit hard to get a tds reading or ph.
I apologize for the horrible reply time was unaware that new members had limited replies.
Not a problem us regulars know you get held up with that
Actually if you are in ocean forest you won’t really need those bottled nutrients until at least week 4 or after. For now you want to just give them ph water of 6.3 to 6.8. And I agree they still are a little small to water to runoff but when you can we will see how much they are eating from your runoff numbers. Once the ppm’s get down near about 1400 or so is when you’ll need the bottled nutrients.
Okay thanks for the info I’ll just give them ph’d water for now until later on. Can you notice anything else by the looks that could be wrong.
I think them having the bottled nutrients too early was what was causing it. They should perk back up after a couple watering.
The drooping is the only thing I really notice and I think that’s just cause of how I was watering at the beginning which I’ve corrected. That and they are growing super slow right now for some reason. They blew up the first week and now you cant really notice day to day differences.
Give them time they’ll come around. They were just getting too many nutrients.
Alright thanks for the help I’ve heard ffof or ff happy frog is a go to for many soil growers so that’s what I bought.
Oh it is and I’ve used it for about a year and a half now with great results.
