Growing a Gelato Auto from quebec cannabis seeds in my closet. 1000W Watt LED Grow Light Panel Full Spectrum Lamp for Indoor Plant Veg Flower from ebay. Germinated on September 30th, in a small coconut fiber pot which I transplanted to the final pot when she was ready. I waited towards the end of week 3 to start the training. I’m watering without runoff and using Espoma organic fertilizers (garden-tone and eventually Flower-tone). I prepared the pro mix with the fertilizer and some worm castings; I probably should have done half of what the instructions said but I thought that rule only applied to liquid nutrients. Anyways, there is what seems to be nutrient burn at the tip of the first leaves. New leaves don’t have burnt tips so I am unsure whether it’s been resolved or not. Part of the reason I suspect it’s nutrient burn is because those espoma instructions are sketchy. 1.5 tablespoons of product per quart of soil when preparing the soil for new plants. That puts you at 6 tablespoons per gallon, and 30 tablespoons for a 5 gallon pot which is what I have. That’s almost 1.8 cups. I did a little less than that, but not too much. When I contacted espoma they said potted plants lose a lot of nutrients when you water, the thing is, I didn’t consider I would be watering without runoff which effectively cancels out that logic. Question is, should I keep watering without runoff and just not topdress with anything (bloom) for the remainder of the grow? Also, am I taking it too far with the lst lol? Also added a pic of the full grown plant in Flower so you can compare. The quebeccannabisseeds says it’ll do 2-3 weeks of veg before entering flower, and it’ll be an additional 8 weeks after that before it can be harvested. If my seed sprouted on the 30th, that puts me in week 5. I noticed some white hairs at the top (not sure what that’s called).
The white hairs are called pistillis. IMO it looks like either some water or nutes got splashed on the leaf. Just keep an eye on it, other than that it looks healthy.
What about the low stress training? Should I ease up? I figured if I can get her to remain mostly horizontal like that, I could get more side stems to grow vertically, but Im not sure if im overdoing it.
Are you trying to mainline them or manifold them? I never tried it but I know @beardless does it.
Looks good to me. I’d just keep it the way it is, and water as normal. I think you’re on the right track. You won’t need to top dress for a long time, if at all. I do something very similar using fox farm fruit and flower 4-9-3, and I use a product called bio thrive bloom during flower. All organic.
The flower-tone I have has a npk of 3-4-5, which I had planned to use when the plant entered flower, but now I’m not sure if it’ll be needed at all. I don’t think the root system has developed enough so that it can make use of all the nuts in the lower part of the pot, and by the time it does it might be near harvest time. So maybe I’ll just ride it out and see if she has all she needs. I’m afraid of adding flower and later having that chemical taste because she could not be washed out.
I think you have to top for those. I’m just slightly bending and tying to the side of the pot, so that the side shoots can get more light and start growing vertically. Eventually when those first shoots are bigger and stronger, I had planned to train those towards the opposite direction, sort of to cover as much of the surface of the pot as I can, but without topping.
Hey @Luigi_Joestar i think they are on schedule. Lst and developing root system may have something to do with tip burn. Being an auto flower I would let them veg at this point. You’ve got some tips going now you need some vertical growth. I would water to runoff once a week and capture to get nutrient and pH levels at this point. Once you get a few metrics you can get an idea how the root zone is doing. Are you using any beneficial microbes?

If it’s organic you shouldn’t have to worry about chemical taste. That’s why I no longer use synthetic fertilizers. Last plant I grew was the best smelling/tasting plant I’ve ever grown, and I’ve grown a bunch.
This is mostly supposed to be a budget grow, so I am using only what I described. Is there a budget friendly way to feed the microbes?
Hey @Luigi_Joestar i haven’t tried this one but the price is less than a 50 pack Raw cones $12.95.
