Yeah man we are all learning with every plant, lol I’m having trouble with my grow and boy each plant is different and want different treatment. Oh if any flowers that have been pollenated the calyx with hairs affected will start to streach and split, you would see white stripes on buds. But if you do get any it takes a few weeks to get dark seeds, mine were cooked 5 weeks after and I got a ton of super skunk seeds. But you could still be lucky… I hope yields are good with those bushy girls keep on the good work, they look yummy
@dbrn32 I’m really in a pissy mood, so excuse my lack of friendliness today as i ask for your help. Please and thank you.
Here are my vital signs:
Soil pH–
AK 7.1
Whw 7.2
Bbg 7.2
TDS distilled water 218.
TDS of tap water 72.
I have the Fox Trio: Grow Big, Bloom Big and Tiger Bloom. I have Cal Mag. I have a soil acidifier that’s supposed to be topical but I guess I could mix it with water. What should I do next?
Ha, I’m usually a little grumpy myself.
How was this measured?
This looks backwards. Even 72ppm looks high for distilled water. I used distilled water exclusively on my last grow, it never measured over 10ppm. There may be an issue with your measuring devices. I’m not sure at this point what you’re using or how you’re using it. But we need to make sure it’s calibrated and/or working properly, and being used properly.
Once the tools can be trusted to provide reliable data, we need to get ppm and ph of your base nutrient solution measured, then run it through your pots and measure the runoff. From there we can determine if you have a ph issue, nutrient deficiency, or maybe toxic build up of nutrients. It looks like you have a calcium deficiency, but that could be build-up of other nutrients locking it out, ph lockout, or just not enough calcium in your solution. All of which require different steps to correct.
Week 13 since sprouting my first grow, photo Bubblegum, White Widow and AK47 in FF soil and nutes.
All looked good until 5 weeks ago when, frankly, everything in life went to crap for a bit. Didn’t have the right tools nor time stop my 3 beauties from taking a dive, then broke my wrist, then got wayyyy too busy at work while dealing with sick friends and family. I know I’m not the only one dealing with shit so my heart goes out to those who are far worse off than me.
My yield might be decent but likely weak seedweed due to a massive light screw up half way into flowering. Started harvesting yesterday because the pistols don’t seem to be progressing and I’m eager to move on to 2nd grow.
BBG went first here are pre-harvest pics:
Drying:
Here’s the WhW, plan to harvest tonight:
And the AK, hopefully tomorrow:
Lesson learned about what went wrong with the grow:
- Tap water is fine until it isn’t. My TDS was okay—around 80–but pH was 9.5 and my first (cheap) meter showed it as just over 7. I suspect that is why I never got the nute deficiencies under control. I’ll use pH down or similar product to get it right on the next grow and will be vigilant about monitoring in and out. And, even though the TDS wasn’t too high I went ahead bought a Zero Water filter a couple weeks ago. As advertised (shocker) it gets TDS down to 0.
- If using more than one light, they should be plugged into a dual outlet timer. I had to each light on a separate powerstrip/timer and at some point they got a little out of sync.
- I struggled to keep my humidity up for the entire grow. Bought a $20 desktop humidifier and used it in the tent until it crapped out 3 weeks ago. You get what you pay for, so I guess I need to get a real humidifier.
- I used 5-gal pots for 2 of my plants but I didn’t completely fill with soil. Probably a good idea to top them off once I transplant the next grow to give the roots more room.
- I should be prepared to use CalMag at the first sign of deficiency since it seems those minerals are often the culprits when it comes to veg leaf discoloration. I used the FF trio after I was in veg and even though I used less than recommended I may have overdone it. Hard to tell since absorption was probably impacted by high pH (?).
- I fimmed for this grow but otherwise no training or significant pruning. Probably LST for next grow but I need to research a bit more.
Really appreciate all the help I got along the way from @Dennis62 @dbrn32 @patchman @anon33684698 @OldTimeRockAndGrow @Oldschool82 @Mrniceguy1 @forcedinduction and anyone else I’m forgetting! Happy New Year and happy growing!
Congratulations my friend on a successful grow. AK looks especially chunky
Congratulations on the harvest. I found the same as you did after the first grow to top off the pot after transplanting give the roots all you can. For your ph down try lemon juice organic been using it on my grow gets it right where I need and it’s cheap and easy to come by. That BBG looked great I’m sure you’ll enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Oh @Naptown I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through all this buddy. And I totally understand pulling the plants probably a touch early just because you’re done with it and want to try again.
How’s your wrist mending up? And your sick family members - are they OK now?
Hey there, really nice of you to ask. Everyone’s doing better, was just a stressful time. I just couldn’t devote the time to the end of the grow like I did with every other stage. How’d yours turn out?
All’s well that ends well. Happy to report I got plenty of smoke-able (or smoke-a-bowl…they actually sound the same:grin:) weed out of my first grow; 4.7.oz total!! Up top !
ILGM feminized seeds, FF soil/nutes, 2X4 tent. Harvested a bit early. Low household RH so they dried quicker than ideal - 3-4 days. Curing in jars with humidity packs, sampling every couple days to understand effect of curing and because, well, shit–it’s marijuana. What? I’m not gonna smoke it even if it isn’t fully baked yet?!? Silly rabbit.
AK47 - 2.2 oz. Not very strong. Has seeds but not as many as I expected after the light snafu. Still a bit harsh. Buzz is not quite euphoric but a mood lifter for sure.
Bubblegum - 1.1 oz decent enough, medium strength. Dried really quickly, sneaking little bits as it cures.
White Widow - 1.4 oz. Um, hello. It is amazing. Both me and the hubby have a little and think it is mild then 20 mins later: boom! We’re suddenly in a stupid, droopy-eyed cloud of bliss. It seems ready to go with hardly any curing. Found 1 seed so far.
So it turns out even when you screw up the last month of your grow and harvest a but early, weed is like pizza: it has to be really, really bad to not be good.
Soaking my seeds for Fired Up Ready To Grow #2. Can’t wait. With all the lessons learned from grow 1 I hope to at least double my yield.
Much appreciate again to all those who helped me! Onward and upward.
OK that’s good to hear that things are looking up for you all. I’ve only harvested one plant just yet. Going to watch the next 2 like a hawk from now on in. I seem to be struggling with nutes as well. Plenty more to learn obviously!
Congratulations man, glad you are able to achieve a successful grow and white widow was one of my favorites @Naptown
Hey @Mrniceguy1 thanks for weighing in. Here’s my 2nd grow and a question about lemon juice for pH down: how often have you used it and has there been a downside?
Still being a newbie, I research everything to death (ugh) and see mixed opinions about using lemon juice. Just one drop in my 32oz sprayer bottle (seeds just sprouted a week ago) lowered water-in pH from 8.9 to 7.1 so I’m hoping to keep using rather than non-organic remedies. Thanks much.
Hey man no problem. For the lemon juice i have to use it every time I don’t feed with nutes. Hasn’t had an adverse effect to my knowledge. The cinex I grew last had a very pungent lemon smell and flavor was an excellent addition. Also if you can get your hands on molasses 1/2 cup to a 5 gallon bucket roots will love you. Sugars feed the microbes. A cinex from the last.
