I have an outdoor plant that has managed to survive the Tropical summer. Which shows incredible toughness. I need to top the buds . Which are also awesome. Plus keep the plant alive for cloning as a mother plant. I would like to keep this plant indefinitely. And just harvest it every fall.
So it’s got fully formed buds already and you didn’t clone it before flowering? I wish you luck with your endeavors.

Newb you dont have to kill plant to harvest. Cannabis is a weed will grow forever. I dont have winters, i live in a totally Tropical climate.

Budbrother has been doing this for a good while.
Not sure what you are referring to when you say you need to top the buds. If the plant is in full flower…it can be cloned but then the clone will need to reveg.
Have you considered just revegging the whole plant?

Um, no. Theoretically, indica and sativa (but not ruderalis) can be kept in a vegetative state indefinitely, but it’s an annual in its natural state, living and dying with the seasons.

The point is to harvest the buds without killing the plant. I want it to keep growing indefinitely

A mature, flowering plant with ripe buds is at the end of its life cycle. Call me stupid, but the smart and easy way to achieve your goal is to keep your mother plant in vegetation on 18x6, take clones and veg to sexual maturity, then flip clones to 12x12.
I get what you are trying to do. I had a plant that I continuously reveg’d after harvesting buds for 2 1/2 years back in the early 80s in a Phototron. Not sure how to get the light cycles right outside.
If you can get it to reveg outside, you can take a bunch of clones then

Gas lantern method. This and a monster clone revert ran through my mind. I had one take almost a year to revert and then many more months to stop spitting out single dog tongues.

I have a female plant about a week from cutting. I just want to cut buds off and let her recover. Then the plant will live hopefully a long time. And give me buds and clones year after year.
I have seen photos of cannabis plants that have been living for 4-5 years Outdoors with bottom stems that are huge.
Even Bonsai cannabis.
Im wanting to stay Outdoors with my plant. She has proven that she can tolerate my tropical climate. I have trying to grow Outdoors for 40 years, no luck. Bugs, mold, super heat, super humidity, freaking hurricanes. Hopefully keep the strain preserved.
