Exhaust/intake requirements advice

So working with a 3x3 tent and with smell being an issue im looking at getting the ac infinity inline fans + carbon filter.

I see the usual setup is exhaust 6" and intake 4".

The 4" is unavailable in the time i need from where i am so my question is can i work it with 2 6" fans, and just have the intake running at a lower speed than the exhaust?

Yup. I push air in my 4x4 with a 4 in AC Infinity

So i can run it just like that, 2 6inchers and just run the inline one at a lower speed?

Correct. Just run the intake fan at a lower speed.

You also have the Option of running one 6 inch.Exhaust fan with a couple of pass through holes open at the bottom of the tent will work fine in a 3x3 tent.

You’ll end up with an inefficient setup by running them in series.

This is on the right path because you do have the potential to get the max flow out of the fan; you have to dial in the intake area.

Carbon filter can steal from that max flow number, so up to you to get/make one that flows well & is still effective at controlling odors, & set it all up with minimal restrictions throughout the setup.

Here’s what happens when you change the intake area. Exhaust fan is at 100% power.

If you want to know where you are with your flow, bench-flow the fan first & then check for flow-losses as you build out the system.

Thanks for a very detailed response but admittedly thats a lot of jargon ill have to look up to know what you’re talking about. I will look up tho.

So im a little confused now, - it would be BETTER to just run an exhaust and just leave the intake holes open? Why is that better than having an intake fan in those holes? I get the exhaust would be pulling air in from those holes regardless

Not disputing, just clarifying for my own sake.

I have 1 good 6" in my 3x3 for exhaust. All that is needed in a small tent. 2 is overkill. You can even get by with a good 4" if want. Have done it. My 3x3 has been up 4 years this time in continual use. Sometimes a sog. Some a scrog. Some a 20 gallon monster. All with 1 fan. A circulatory fan is needed though. Doesnt have to move. A reg fan hitting back wall will give all the airflow you need.

@Dinky The exhaust fan will pull fresh air in through the bottom pass through holes and exhaust hot stale air out the top Maintaining a negative pressure and controlling odor. I use a 6 inch in a 4x4 never had a problem with mold or odor.
Stick a 6 inch flex in the 2 holes at the bottom hanging out with a couple snake bends to prevent light penetration. Good luck :v:

Thank you fellas saved me a few bucks!

While i have ye, the AC 6" filter is sold out (of course) was looking at the mars one. As long as they have the Australian stuff in it its all good yea?

If it blows good doesnt really matter brand. Fans are on my cheap list. Lights on high dollar list. Small grow. No need for high end except lighting. Carbon filter is used in flowernonly so can skimp a touch to begin.

Seen edit thanks, odor biggest hurdle

Caught that and updated reply. Lots of filters. Midrange works fine.

Also when the filter is done use the carbon in your soil. Dont just toss it.

Ah now thats cool to know, love learning bits like that.

Putting the final touches on everything now, odour control in prep for flower is next :love_you_gesture:

Im using the same space as you but one photo hoping i can spread her as far as possible, but to be honest i think i missed my window a bit for real training. My first real grow with actual equipment and just as you said biggest purchase was the lights, recommended from here and couldnt be more chuffed with them. After i got some advice on nutes and measuring etc its pretty much been plain sailing, my biggest hurdle now is staying incog

I pulled 2lb dry from my 3x3 before. 1 plant. Gg4 in a 20 gallon pot. Heavily fimmed and vegged till wall to wall then flipped.

My 3x3 is my whatever tent. I do all kinds of things with it. Main is a 5x5. Great to hang to dry also.

Thats insane! If i hit 100g I’d be delighted :joy:

Im working with a great plant tho, topped recently but i think she’s far beyond any LST beyond 30-40° to the main stem, haven’t really sat and evaluated what way im going to go about her yet but im optimistic for her yield, for a first grow that is.

But man, 2lbs is just crazy, id be over the moon
