Early magnesium Deficiency in coco?

5 goldleaf clones same mother
Coco/perlite 70/30
GH trio +cal-mag
4 in autopots with what i suspect to be early magnesium deficiency.
Changed reservoir 2 days ago ph in res was 6.0
I put fresh solution back in at 5.8ph, 2days later this on multiple leafs on the 4 plants in autopots.
I water the 5th by hand out of the reservoir.
But I have not watered it out of the new reservoir since it was charged and it is not showing these signs…

If I could be wrong on my diagnosis do explain please as this is my first-time with coco and autopots, only experience is with soil…

But if my diagnosis is possibly correct, can I simply raise ph to 6.0 so they can better take up magnesium? Or…?.. thoughts

Hey @1HappyPappy
I think your plants are looking healthy and happy. Not seeing any bottom leaves affected.

My guess is light possibly being a touch too much. Give it a day or 2 and see if it gets worse if so raise light a touch or lower power a hair to get them going again. I have this issue when I turn my lights up. One time I turn it it’s fine next time might be a bit too much and start to see a slight yellow look on top but it does not progress if it is not blasting real bad. If small like urs looks I’ll leave it and see if it changes if no change in a day or 2 then I worry a little looks ok tho I’d see what another day or 2 brings if pH and ppms are ok

Looking good , @1HappyPappy I have grown alot of gold leaf an they like cal-mag. Once they hit flowering stage , 6 ml once every week. That’s just me good luck my friend.

@1HappyPappy, I think you are correct on your diagnosis. I’ve never done a hydro grow so I don’t know if altering the pH will fix it or result in anything good.

I’ve never bought bagged soil for my weed, always made my own blend with coco as the base. One thing I learned was that you need to “double buffer” your coco with cal-mag prior to use, otherwise it’s cation exchange sites will lock too much of it up making it unavailable for your plant.

Dr MJ Coco does a good explanation of this here:

Its to early to tell , I’ve had natural coloring like that

They are definitely not not to bad at all. But the the first picture is not normal colouration. It could be my pictures now showing it well.
But the lower and middle fans are not colored right :confused:a

My roi e720 (720w light) is about 26" from them and running at only 25% which puts it at less then 200 watts.

I could raise it but thats the lowest setting :pensive:
I haven’t noticed any light stress (leaf tacos, yellowing on top. Just the very slight discoloration of middle and lower fans. I
It started the day after Res change one 1 leaf and now 4 days later all plants are showing it on a few mid to lower fans…

Im onw out the door for work, no change either way this morning, I will assess when i get home to-night. I will be little trouble to bump ph up just a hair to get it just over 6.0.
That is my plan at this point unless someone changes my mind before i get home

I do appreciate everyone’s ideas though
Happy growing everyone…

Next best I can think is add some Xtra cal mag and see if that helps that bit. May be lacking a bit either way the cal mag won’t hurt it

Sure does look like mag deficiency. I kind of agree that it could be ph related. I know you will but I’ll say it anyway. Check ph again today before adjusting.
I also have this from botanicare dot c

Magnesium deficiencies can be caused by either a lack of magnesium available to the plant, or as a result of an overabundance of potassium, ammonium, calcium, or manganese.

If you copy and paste that to google it should bring up the whole article. It was first one when i did it.
Good luck @1HappyPappy

I’ve only used coco coir once and it worked great. I have since just used water for my hydroponic grows. DWC is my go to way for growing cannabis. They both are great ways to grow your on at home. I did some research and found that you should start with some washed coco of the best quality otherwise you can have contaminates in your mix.
I started with, Viagrow Coco Coir is triple washed and steamed to assure low PPM, sodium value and sterilized to produce a perfect growing media that can be mixed with other growing mediums such as: perlite, vermiculite, soil, expanded clay pebbles and so much more!

I have noticed that Hydroponic grows are explosively fast. Sometime doubling in 24 hours with young plants.

Make sure your including some Bacillus Root Inoculant in your watering regiment. Helps to protect roots and make nutrients available to your plants.

I hadn’t really thought about hydrogaurd with coco, I will definitely look into it in just a little bit.
My mix is Foxfarm cultivation nation 70/30 coco/perlite.
When deciding to get away from soil to free up my time. I thought really hard about different forms of rdwc and just dwc.
Then i saw what people where doing with autopots and coco and thought, that’s it for me.
No chiller, no automation equipment, no pumps, no waisted or dumped nutrients, no electricity even needed if you don’t run airstones…
These four pots are my test before I fully swap over.
I need 6-10 more pots, so you think i should take another look at rdwc possibly?

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Fox Farms grow mixes on this site. Also about HLG light fixtures.
I had great luck with my coco grow. I had salvaged a 4x4 tent from my neighbor that was tossing his system. Along with some other nice items that have realty come in handy.
If your trying to free up some time I would look at the auto pots or RDWC for sure. The DWC routine is tedious but I’m retired and have the time.
I’ve added a 4x8x1 tent that has a 4x8 main grow area and a 4x1 dual level area for cloning and seedlings.
My current run started germination of 4 seedlings last week of October. Culminating in 2 mother plants and 5 clones. The mothers finished on 2/8 and the five clones are in week 5 of flower now.

I haven’t tried auto pots but RDWC is my direction. We lost power for a couple of days last year with my hydro water and coco in full veg. I had to drain my hydro water buckets to get root air during that electrical outage. Both survived well and I think that had a little to do with the Hydroguard protecting the roots. A few more days and I’m not sure how either would have faired.
I freeze two 2 liter cola bottles each day to chill my top off water. I suppose a chiller would work best with the RDWC. Because I only grow during winter that keeps my grow area cool. I’m able pull outside cold air in to cool my tents and provide cool air for my bubblers. I also able to move my 2 HYPHOTONFLUX HP4000’s outside of the tent for a cooler environment inside the tent.

Omw to work now, I’ll have mote time this evening.
But I am definitely ordering another 4pot XL spring pot just like I have now from autopots this weekend. If not 2 kits, id like to have 6-8 smaller 3.9gal pots to use for SOG type grows with smaller auto strains  just haven’t made my mind up.

I have 2 bubble buckets, maybe i should try a couple in them before I spend to much on autopots…
