Dwc or rdwc? Pros and cons for both

Here’s my question
I’m looking at a few different set ups I really want to try out hydro in the future
But I’m looking at the rdwc vs dwc
What are the positives and negatives for each
Kinda looks like with a rdwc if something went wrong all the plants would get hit
Also looks like they wouldn’t be moveable so I wouldn’t be able to rotate
Just kinda what I’m looking at
Would love to hear what people with experience think

DWC is leak proof.

You can do DWC successfully but would not recommend 5 gallon buckets. Your liquid level will vary tremendously daily to the tune of a gallon a day in flower which means you are always mixing nutes. You also have to worry about the temperature of your solution which inevitably means a chiller.

RDWC will maintain liquid levels at nominal and with a decent rez you can leave your system for extended periods. A chiller is also something that you will have to have if you continue with hydro.

Personally I believe that RDWC is far superior to bucket hydro.

I’ve been using DWC for a few years and have been reluctant to deploy a RDWC because my grow area is upstairs.
Lots of watering for sure but I have a 30 gallon catchment system for collecting rain water.
I only need to grow for 4 months of the year during the winter months. I have a 9x4(8&1x4) and a 4x4 tent that allows me to grow two crops. I start with 8 seeds and after about a month move to them to 5 gallon buckets in the 8x4 and let them veg for another month. I do a leveling of the canopy and collect clones. They go to a 1x4 section of the 9x4 tent to root. Whilst the mother’s lights are dialed in to begin flower.
After a couple of weeks the clones get moved to 3 gallon buckets in the 4x4.
Once the mothers are about done they get harvested and the clones move into 5 gallon buckets in the big top.

I use ebb and flow system and I love it. Ebb and flow submerges the roots in nutrient solution occasionally and DWC does so all the time. My system waters with nutrients twice a day for 30 minutes at a time. I change my water every 7-10 days. They grow like monsters. I use 5 gal containers and clay pebbles. Rock wool cubes after germination. Good luck with your choice

Advantage #2

DWC is easy to sterilise and clean between grows, no plumbing to deal with, just the containers/lids and air stones to clean.
