Dwc help looks like root rot

First time growing dwc . 4 autos 24 hours ago i moved my autos of 4 weeks into larger containers and now the roots that were pretty and white are now light brown. Im using ro water. I don’t understand the only thing tha changeed was the size of the containers?

morning growmie… did you put any hydroguard or Southern AG in the new container…

Absolutely. 2ml per gallon “hydro guard”

so give me a pic of your DWC and the containers you moved from and to… you may have somehow lost the bacteria and biofilm that the plant produces at the roots to help protect it…

Red and black container is a 10 gallon that was holding 3 gallons for 3 plants. The new containers are 5 gallons holding 3 gallons.

cover the clay pebbles to stop any possible light getting in…you can add some more hydroguard… also hydro guard goes bad after 6 months of it being opened…there is live stuff in there that starts to die off once the container is opened and you need it to be alive to work…

Hydroguard is new opened 2 weks ago. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will clear up my issue.

high nutrient temps > 76F , poor air circulation in the nutrient/water and light are typically what gives us root rot in hydro…

Should I remove yellowing leaves on bottom?

I would they are serving no purpose

All my parameters look good. Res temp at 68F.ph at 6.0 all sites getting about 100 gph of air. Thanks for your help I will add a bit more hydroguard.

you are welcome…good talking with you… :cowboy_hat_face:

mine reads good for 1 year after manufacture date unopened…bottom line is it doesn’t live very long

@Retiredoldguy man I could really use your help figuring out what my problem is. My buckets keep doing it man, they keep turning foggy and smelly after a few days. Slimy clear gel on roots and AirStone. I have been putting peroxide

My 2cents is dwc is better if you don’t do dwc lol put in a res and you’d probably be better off

What is the temp of your nutrient solution? How much air into solution? How far below net pot is liquid? What nutrients are you using?

My guess is your temps are above 70F which is the sweet spot for root rot (pythium).

Hey jay, this sounds similar to a issue I’ve had when i started running dwc currently im running rdwc which in my opinion is easier especially with maintaining solution temps because you can add a chiller to maintain temps. First as was said in past advice solution temperature is important personally 68° to 70° ferinheight is perfect. If that is not a option add more bubbles it helps offset warmer solution temps. Bottom line my advice is to dump old solution add more bubbles + hydro guard or similar product give them a couple of days. Don’t give up on those girls. The extra bubbles and hydro guard should help. Happy growing man
