So i got the moisture meter today. Some of the smaller buds are as low as 8%. The biggest on the main branch is at 18%. That being said, they still smell like grass, but not as much as the past few days. Should i keep drying until the smell dissipates? I’m wondering if I should put a humidity pack and hang a bag around them to try and re-moisturize until the smell goes away. Also, these aren’t dense at all. At this point are they just going to be airy buds?
No, you dont wanna do that. The cure iz the only way from here.
This is the way with autoflowers. Airy(er) buds are a ruteraliss trait. It has nothing to do with the quality of tue flower, just how the structure comes out. You can get denser buds with better light but still be loose as far as what you are likely used too.
Ya some buds will be fluffy airy. I would start curing the small ones now and try to get humidity up a little in jars or containers and let larger ones come down to 16% and cure

You gonna want to look towards your next grow to eliminate the things you are unhappy with about this grow. Its a process my friend. One that takes a bit to get right. Growing the plants is only half the battle. Gear, timing, wisdom through failure is the other side of the coin. Your dry was too fast and in too dry environment. Gotta fix that. Too much nutes likely culprit for the smell. Etc etc. Dont let it phase you. And dont judge your bud until it has dryed and cured for at least 2 weeks.
Put it all in a ziplock bag with a small hygrometer and see what % Rh it levels out at. If over 70% or so, put back where you are drying it. That will balance out the moisture and let you know when it is ready too. I do that with mine until it tops at about 65% Rh. then into GroveBags for the cure and storage.

@Docnraq hey it went better than expected lol. The smell ended up going away and now it’s like a slightly sweet smell in the jars. I rolled some the other day and it gets the job done. I’m still burping them and gonna try some again in a few weeks. Glad I stayed with it and thanks for checking in. Appreciate your advice!

@ChittyChittyBangin i have a few questions about drying , my last years harvest was a disaster hay smell screwed almost the whole harvest so this year i want to prevent that . U said 40 hours of darkness ? Whats this do? I need all the pointers i can get . This year im drying inside ,lastyear i tried drying outside in my shop with 1 ac andnit wasnt enough, even in October the heat and humidity is high where im at ( southern most tip of us touching mexico) so im gonna try inside , in a closet humidity stays around 50 to 60 and the temps around 68 to 71
I wouldnt worry about the 40 hours of darkness. I would cut and dry and hang in a climate controlled dark room. You might get a hay smell at first but with proper drying and curing that will go away…
Day 1 - 5 temp 70°F 60%rh
Day 6 - whenever temp 60 to 65 °F 50 to 55% rh
@ShirleyC yes thats clear. I harvested that way too early i feel. I cooked that plant litterally. That was so many grows ago… heres what i look for to harvest
