Drying bud in Hanging Netted Baskets

image
I was wondering if anyone out there have used or are using the Hanging Netted Baskets to dry your bud? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I use a simple sweater dryer and hang it over a shower curtain rod in an unused bathroom where I can control temp/humidity.

No need to buy anything expensive.

My last grow I really screwed up on the drying part. Buds looked fantastic!! I didn’t separate the buds just left them in one giant one. Hung them in the right humify and right temp but they still smelled like hay, kind of a grassey smell. Even after leaving them in Groove bags for over a month some smell went away but never really smelled like bud. But would screw you up! So I really don’t want to screw this one up.
How long do you dry them? Do you turn them and if so how often? Thanks again!

I use a clothes rack and paper clips, wife had the clothes rack laying around. It usually goes in my 2x4 tent for climate control but that was full at the time

It’s nice cause it collapses to almost nothing.

You can find some cheap ones, $20-$40

The hay smell is normal. Usually after 6days or so at 60%RH and 70°F it goes away for me though. I shoot for 7-10days drying but bag them sooner if needed. Curing, my weed doesn’t ever smell super skunky, seems like the terps come through more on home grown and it usually smells sweeter than what I’m used to. Tastes better too, it gets me high as a kite…I must be doing something right! Lol

I use one. I trim my smaller buds and put them into the baskets, hang the top branches on the sides of the racks.
I just picked up a moisture meter today. I’m happy with it.

Mines been in Groove bags for a few months and still have that hay smell, and I sell hay equipment and it smells like some of my customers, LOL! I have cut some of my one plant and its hanging in that 8 tier mesh black enclosed baskets. The other girls smells down right skunky! Both seeds are supposed to be the but both of the girls looked and smelled totally different. I’m cutting the rest Sunday and putting that in the baskets.

I cut and hang the whole plant fan leaves and all for 14 days sometimes 16. Slow and low drying in a consistent climate produces epic results. Then I store in giant parchment paper turkey bags inside of a rubber maid tote while I work my way through trimming. After the 2 week hang it already smokes smooth, but after a minimum 1 month cure its epic. Wet trimming ruins bud in my opinion. Dry hand trimming is what I prefer. The untrimmed leaves protect the trichromes.

Read my other comment on whole plant hang. Just a sidenote too…killer outdoor growers do not ever not hang the whole plant leaves and all. Do you have a place that you can control the humidity levels? I shoot for around no more than 70° and 45% humidity for first day or two then 50%-52% for the remaining two weeks. Because the whole plant is hanging, all the leaves and branches have moisture as well slowing down and not letting the flowers dry to quickly. You need cooler temps, dark space with no light, air circulation but no fan blowing directly on the plants ever, and consistent humidity

I could never get that low of humidity. Lucky you

I use one. Like the mesh and zipper enclosure. Keeps the cat hair and dust off the buds.

I use one and love it.
I trim my bud down to manageable sizes and put them in there. A couple of times a day i go in and shake it up really good. That ensures the bud doesn’t dry with a flat side.

Do you have a dehumidifier?

I like the rack nets. But then I do not.
Next year if possible I’ll hang all or most of my stem from the sides .

when I was cutting my plants I wasn’t prepared for the work.
My first big grow.

I didn’t leave many hooks in my stems.

around the outside of the basket I used twist ties to hang from.

It worked great.

I waited for the branches to snap them I trimmed the buds onto the nets.

Next season I’ll do the same thing I’ll just be more careful when I handle the buds.

I think using the net breaks a lot of the tricones off.
So that said I use a large pc paper to catch them on the bottom net. And you will also see what’s come out of them.

The hay/grass smell is the chlorophyl. My understanding, is if the plant dries too quickly, it gets locked in and doesn’t get a chance to break down. Curing helps, but won’t get rid of it completely if the dry is too fast, a problem I constantly fight in my 70+ degree area, with very little option for adding AC. My RH is held at 55-60%, and mine was ready for bags in 5 days. I’d like to double that time, but just can’t seem to stretch it out any longer than that, at least until some winter chill sets into the basement. Fortunately my last dry has cured for a week and a half, and is starting to smell better, but the taste still isn’t there (to be fair, it was a poor grow as well). This dry (a better grow) I pulled after 4 days and put in a 5 gal bucket with a lid I mounted a hygrometer in (that I semi-trust) to sweat/burp them, and hope to drag it out a few more days.

More to the thread topic, I just cut up an old warped, wooden closet rod and hung one at the top of a 2x4 tent, and another suspended from a pair of hanging straps that came with an exhaust fan. I cut grooves around the rod on the table saw so metal clothes hangars wouldn’t twist around and bump into each other, then just wish-boned or binder-clipped branches on the hangars. I’ve tried wet-trimming, and it’s just too much of a pita for me. I just cut off the big fans and leave anything on that has trich’s now.

Yes, I use a bowl trimmer, and put the buds in netted hanging baskets. Works well for me.

Imagine the great weed we could grow, harvest and enjoy if we all had the perfect environment…

I’m sort of a perfectionist but I can only afford so much.

These days
