@DR.PNW , I’m contemplating going back to school with a focus on cannabis cultivation in a commercial setting but I have no idea where to begin so I don’t waste time and money. Do you have any advice?

I’ve been home growing indoors and outdoor for 4 years now. I’m currently growing in coco with Jacks 321 cut to remove Epsom salt. I’ve only grown in bagged cannabis specific soil mixes, coco and my homemade organic living soil. I’d be happy to tag you in my current grow if you’re interested.

@Jake3 Schooling is a great path but in all honesty the most applicable schooling for cannabis cultivation is generalized botany, biology, horticulture, and agriculture.
Understanding plants is a better foundation than understanding the bureaucratic systems built around cannabis as these can be learned in field, unless your trying to get a desk job.
There are tons of great Cannabis specialized courses if you already have a good understanding of plants.
There is just so much opportunity without having to invest yourself in the struggle to conform to the hyper-vigilant laws that come with legalized cannabis cultivation.

Thank you. I believe I have a decent understanding of plants, some biology, and horticulture in general (mostly cannabis) I’ve been following cannabis and farming podcasts for about 10 years and think that’s why I’ve had very few issues with any of my grows this far.

A close friend of mine owns a hydro shop in my town and has a micro grow license. He asked me if I would supply his shop with clones that he can offer to his clients as I never have pest issues (knock on wood). He is also starting a 3000sqf indoor commercial facility so I was hoping to better gear myself up to hopefully be able to take on a large roll there with him.

Good positions to be in.

Your friend may require help at the hydro shop once he spreads himself thin between that and the Micro. Grow supply retail is a huge industry learning opportunity and will establish connections in your local community.

Micro cultivation would be diving headlong into it but that way of learning is more effective than classrooms for some. If there are no prerequisites you don’t already have and your knowledge is already at a high enough level to take on serious responsibility, I would personally choose that option of slower hands on learning over schooling. Paid to learn vs pay to learn.

Regarding clone production for sale purposes:
No bugs is great, keep up on preventative IPM and predators for both above and below ground, but also keep in mind the ever present threat of HLV and other systemic viruses.

After a short read up I learned something new. I’ve heard of HLV but never have been inclined to read about it. I know he sends tissue samples out already for a multitude of tests to include some diseases and for sexing I’ll have to ask if he tests for that now too. Thank you for all the information and for your time.
