Good Morning, Growing Bruce Banner Autoflower and noticed some yellowing in the new seedling leaves preparing to emerge. Is this normal? My understanding is a healthy dark green is the preference. Any other advice at this stage? I’m very confused about watering and fertilizer recommendations so any advice please!
Answer these simple questions the best you can. If you aew not sure, just bring it to oue attention. We will figure it out.
Indoor or outdoor? - Indoor
Otigin of seeds? Barcelona Seed Company
Regular, feminized, or autoflower? Autoflower
Origin of water. PH, EC/TDS of source water? Distilled water getting new PH and TDS pens as the ones I have are a bit wonky.
They dont need domes any more i think to damp. Most soils have enough nutrients to sustain them till Transplanting. Autos do not like to be fiddled with to much.
They look to be old enough to go without domes now and should have good roots on them to be able to start top feeding.
Also I would start giving them some nutrients. If you’re in soil allow a wet/dry cycle. If you’re in coco you can water everyday.
I’m in coco and water 2x a day.
If you use distilled water you would have to add nutrients to that water and then get a ph and EC reading. Distilled water contains no minerals so you’ll get a false reading. I use tap water and have an air stone pump running to evaporate the chlorine out for at least 24hrs.
Take the domes off for about a week and you’ll start to see a difference.
For hydro I’ve always preferred a rdwc with reservoir to do top of sand readings from , just makes life easier. Single dwc your changing a lot even when plantsarebig
Thanks @auto-photo98! I removed the domes and yesterday applied some fertilizer: Coast of Maine 1-0-1. Is there a chart that you recommend for ideal pH levels at different stages? I’m using Fox Farm Coco Loco and it does dry out quickly. I’ll try 2x watering. Should I soak the soil when watering or do you have a guidance?
Thanks, @SausageMahoney! How much water and how frequently? The soil looks parched a lot. I’m using FoxFarm Coco Loco in peat pots. And yes, I will be removing them from the peat. I’m noticing this is not recommended (the peat pots).
On my seedlings (when I get that far… lol) I’ll just do a 10-15 drops around the edges of the leaves each day. Being in coco you never want it to dry out so I also do 2 drops at the base as well. Mostly try to keep the watering at the edge of the roots so they’re stretching out to find moisture. As they stretch they’ll pull the plant with them.
Yes we do. We are in coco soil and use jacks nutrients. Start with half strength then once the plant has 4-5 nodes (sets of leaves) we go to full strength.
Sausage got you covered. Start at the leafs edge with watering. If I’m not mistaken coco loco is a blend of coco and soil if I’m not mistaken. I’m almost positive that stuff you treat like soil. It hold water a good amount so you’ll wanna water/feed a good amount and then wait until that dry cycle. Everyone’s climate is different so watering/feeding schedule is almost different for everyone.
When I grew in soil I pretty much allowed the plant to tell me when it was hungry or thirsty through the drooping of leaves. Or I would fill up a container that my plant is in (5 gallons) I’ll pick that up without adding water or feed. Then I’ll add the water/feed to my plant and pick that up (it’ll be heavy) if it’s still heavier then the 5 gallon without a plant, water or feed than you don’t need to water. If it’s relatively light then you’ll be good to water.
You wanna allow the roots to get oxygen. The plus side is perlite is added to that stuff so it helps with aeration but it’s not enough. That’s why I switched over to Canna Coco. I water/feed in the morning. At about 5-6pm I water again.
