Anyone have opinions on do si Doe auto flower versus feminized? I am not seeing much difference listed in descriptions. I did an Auto flower outdoors, and was pleased with it, but I am now moving indoors, and didn’t know if I would have a higher THC or better growth from the feminized seeds. Let me know what you think. Thank you in advance.

You’ll have consistently better results growing photos.
I would definitely suggest photos for a newer grower. Autos can be challenging.
All cannabis seeds (both autos and photos) from seed banks are feminized unless specified otherwise… The differentiation is really between autos and photos.

I’ve had a good run With an auto grow in the strain. I have been having some males turn up in the feminized version of some other strains lately. I think you’re probably right with the additional control that photo gives I might be better off. I’ve been doing this about five years and things seem to constantly be changing. I think a lot of it has to do with the seed breeders

Definately photos. You can lst during veg, build your bud sites, then shoot into flower when ready.

I do some pretty heavy training on autos with awesome results.
I’ve grown both, and I would suggest you try the same. It’s great to get opinions of course, but ultimately we each decide what works best for us.

Have these autos going. The wedding cake in the back just started flowering the gelato should start any time now as well. I’ve been dealing with nitrogen toxicity issues. I feel like if I’m going to try a little training it should start now. From reading around the forum most people say leave them alone. I don’t know.

@Jspeach @Cap_Ron is one of your go-to guys with autos. He knows whats up. He has more hands on experience with autos than i do. In my experience, I LST autos up until they show maturity and then i leave them alone.

Sorry, I have been really busy the last few days.
Autos are just like most other living things, every one is an individual. For the most part, they can handle much more training than people give them credit for, but it’s important to make sure they’re healthy and growing at a good pace before you get started. A struggling or weaker looking auto has a much higher chance of stunting if you stress them too much.
Also, knowing the genetics is a big help. For example, I’ve had issues with “Skywalkers” from Mephisto Genetics. They seem to not like to be abused very much. I’ve had 2 that I topped or super cropped, and neither did very well. I tried another one and left it to grow naturally, and it did much better. On the other hand, many Mephisto autos handle topping and super cropping like champions, and most would get way too tall without that kind of training.
I think the biggest mistake most people make with autos is starting them in big pots. It’s impossible for them to get off to the best start they can in a big pot. They do considerably better in a solo cup, and there’s no way to make up for the lost growth if they have to start in a big pot.

I just finished a run of 2 Do si do autos from ilgm.
I only run autos and I can tell you that they can take a beating when training. Some are gonna disagree with me and that’s ok.

Can you elaborate on this a little. I’m on my second grow, first auto, and started them in 5 gal. cloth pots. I don’t quite understand the dixie cup starts. Would transplant shock play into this some? Thanks

@Fishyswaw, years ago when autoflowers typically had much weaker genetics, it was strongly advised that you don’t transplant them. Back then, there were still substantial Ruderalis traits in autos, and transplanting them could easily make them stunt and go into flower way too soon while they’re still really small.
Today’s autos, at least the ones from reputable breeders have no Ruderalis traits left except for the internal flowering trigger. I’ve been transplanting my autos for a few years now, and the results are considerably better than the way I used to do it.
All cannabis seedlings will do better in a solo cup or other small container, rather than in a big final pot, auto or photo. That part has never been disputed. It’s much easier for them to set roots, and it’s much easier for us to water/feed them properly. Tiny cannabis plants in 5 gallon pots cannot thrive. They can do well, but not like in a solo cup. With autos, it’s best to give them any advantage you can, and let them grow as fast as possible before they hit the bloom phase.
It’s still possible to stunt them, so you have to do the transplant very carefully. It’s also important to time it properly.

Thanks Cap_Ron, but why do they do better? The pair of Durban autos I have going now, I actually started in a 4” cowpot then transplanted. They seem to be doing good. I was surprised by how quickly they showed signs of flower and was hesitant to do any training. I would have liked to shorten the one also but was leery because of the bud growth.

Good timing @Fishyswaw, I just started a new grow a week ago, and I’m planning on making a journal either tonight or tomorrow. I’ll detail pretty much every step. I’ll post a link here for you once I start the journal.
A few basic questions.
What kind of soil are going to be using?
Do you have good tap water, or will you be using R/O or distilled water?
What kind of nutrients are you going to use?

@Cap_Ron , Soil is Roots, nutes are Jack’s Tap. My tap liquified but I’ll use it till it’s gone then probably switch to their A/B formula. I just hate wasting anything. Using tap water filtered with a “boogie blue?” filter, I think. Wanted to use rain water but never enough. Thanks!
