Dialing in 3x5 tent mid-flower

Hey guys… long time lurker. Been growing for mannnny years but finally recently got into the LED game…
I have a 3x5 tent with a 480w “full spectrum” LED from Viparspectra. Have a couple of successful runs under my belt with this gear, but I feel like the overall bud structure was sort of underdeveloped and nodes were not completely filled in on some of the bigger top buds. Everything was super dense and covered with frost… quality was amazing, just feel like I could have pulled some more weight, average was like .85g/w…

The tent currently has 3 ladies at 4 weeks into flower and another 3 ladies that were just introduced this week. It sits in a lung room that typically stays around 70-75F in the winter but it’s DRY, like 15-20% so my humidifier has to WORK! Temps run about 72-74 with lights off and 80-84 with lights on…
my question is should I be working on getting the proper VPD dialed in, or just get humidity in check at this point? My problem is with the temp of the room at 81+ and about 50% humidity, I get a reading of more than 2.00 kpa. Should I be trying to get my temps down to bring the kpa to a more reasonable level, or just eff it and let it ride? :man_shrugging:t2:

By the way, strains are “The Biz”, “Bread & Butter” and “Galactic Runtz”

80 and 50% sound pretty good. Look pretty good too for 4 weeks. I would almost suspect the low humidity over the temperature. They like warmth. Welcome to the forum.

I don’t know many growers that bother chasing VPD as it can be frustrating and the benefit is marginal. I try to run RH at 50 to 60 in veg and 40 to 50 in flowering.

The only reason I use vdp is that the ACi makes the adjustments to the humidity and I do not have to deal with it. Set the temp and as long as my duct fan is on the correct setting it keeps humidity close to 1% variance through the day.

I am just starting week 4 and I am at 77/72 and 1.5 vdp wich is 45%/53%

My research has enough proof at the university and commercial growers to talk me into lower temps in flower. I ran 85/1.1 77/1.1 in veg but above 76 in mid to late it can effect resin and terp building and storage.

I never paid any attention to it in the past, didn’t even know what vpd was really until I recently got my ACI humidifier and plug controller that both have probes which give temp/hum/vpd readings and then I fell into the rabbit hole…

I really want to break 1g/w this grow, so just trying to create the optimal environment…
my plants always look good, but these are some of the healthiest looking plants I’ve grown to date. I’m finding that how much humidity plays a huge part in the overall growth most likely has a lot to do with it because not much else changed with my setup. In previous grows I would just toss a small humidifier in my lung room and I’d be lucky to run the tent up to 30% on a good day. The ACI humidifier was a game changer for me this year.

I’m going to work on dialing back my temp to the 75-77 range with lights on… 70ish with lights off.

Thanks for the input :call_me_hand:t3:

Could you attribute some of this as strain specific? This run looks very nice at this point in your grow.

Not likely but I guess. This was across multiple strains so I don’t think it was anything to do with genetics.
The quality was hands down better than most grows in my years under HPS lighting, so I was thinking maybe the light I’m using just lacks some of the “red” spectrum that we need for optimal growth… I’m just grasping at straws here now lol

OMG your comment took me back to my first grow. Hydro on a budget. Big ole humidifier taken up 30% of the floor space. The lights would take it to 76 degrees and I had an inkbird setup to turn reptile lights for heat and the humidifier.

Now I do soil and organics.

Great looking girls there! I don’t know very much about all that yet but at the risk of sounding green(no pun intended):sweat_smile: what does vpd stand for?

Looking like me rn in the closet on a budget
