Dehumidifier solution and any other ideas - for a 3x3x6 in a garage

Hi everyone, I’m looking for any input or creative ideas here. Much appreciated.

I’m working on my indoor setup. I’m in the Toronto area of Canada. I’m putting up a 3x3 AC Infinity tent in my garage. I’ll be growing in there from from the fall through to early spring. Too hot in summer.
Current equipment:
3x3x6 AC Infinity tent
Ac Infinity T4 Cloudline in-line fan, Controller 69 Pro, and T3 Cloudforge humidifier
4 inch carbon filter
4 inch inline fan
Oscillating fan
Small electric heater
Two knock-off LED Cob lights (about 110W draw each. I will upgrade in the future, but for now they will give enough light, just not energy efficient).
I make my own organic soil. I’ll either use two 20 gallon fabric pots or a sub-irrigated planter. I can set up an automatic drip low for watering if needed.

I think my main item missing is a dehumidifier. I’ve read that the little cheap ones don’t bring down humidity enough in a tent. I also have read that a bigger one, 30 to 50 pint, will add too much heat being within the tent. I don’t think using my garage as a lung room will work well, because it’s not insulated and I’ll be using a lot of energy to dehumidify my neighborhood. This is my conundrum - how to get humidity on point? To get optimal environment and VPD, I’ll definitely need to reduce humidity. I’ve seen that from the past couple years growing in there. Anyone have any solutions or ideas?

Also if you think I’m missing anything else, let me know! Thanks so much everyone

I’m growing indoors in NC summer heat wave and I still have a hard time keeping humidity down in an air conditioned house. I have 1 clip fan and a desk fan for 2 plants in a 2x2x6 with a small dehumidifier in it.

Thanks @Chainsmoker , how does your dehumidifier affect the tent? Worth it to get a little one to help, even if it doesn’t get humidity all the way down?

Dehumidifiers blow out hot, dry air. I grow in a closet in a bedroom, with a dehumidifier, and when I kick it on, the closet can easily go up 5°.

That being said, how cold does your garage get in the dead of winter in Ontario? I’m waaaay south. If temps drop to 60° in lung room, then it’s a challenge keeping above 70° with lights on. The little dehumidifiers work if you’re up to dumping them several times a day, depending on average rh. I can dump mine 2-3 times a day and it holds about 10l.

I have used damp rid in the pass it seem to work fine

I have a 10x10 tent, portable a/c, 50 pint dehumidifier, 6” cloud line 1 intake and 1 outtake, I have the a/c unit exhausting out the garage window. I need to empty my dehumidifier once per day. I am in a high humidity area. As long as I keep it emptied daily I can control the humidity between 50 & 60% depending on the stage of growth I’m at.

My first room i built was a 5’×7’×8’ i used a 6" duct with in line fan connected to a low volt tremorstat that come o. At 80° to get the heat out because i had the dehumidifier in the room plus the fans had to much excess heat. the other benefit i found about the dehumidifier was the water i recycled it to water the plants

:point_up_2: same and the struggles are real :love_you_gesture:

I would love to buy a hundred acres and bulid livable bio-domes one 1 acer plots…now thats green living…lol anyone has Elon’s #

In the dead of winter with the grow doing it can get down to freezing, around 30F. I have a small electric heater that kept my small grow cabinet at a good temp. Plus my lights aren’t great, so they give off lots of heat - silver lining.

Maybe the heat from a dehumidifier wouldn’t be too bad. I think I’ll try a small cheap one, I can rig it up to drain to my plants so I don’t have to empty it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and input. Looking forward to having a dialled in environment!

Woooord. Sometimes we gotta use that pothead ingenuity to get where we need. Pay attention to vpd (Vapor Pressure Deficit) if your temps and/or rh start getting wonky. Don’t chase numbers, but within a few degrees or points of preferred. Good luck growmie!!!
