Why hasnāt anyone ever made a punta roja/rudaralis autoflower for all the old timers wondering what happened to Columbian red bud?
Canāt answer the auto question but you can still find some solid regular Old School Seeds from a few reputable breeders. Iāve been playing around with Santa Marta Columbian Gold F2s, Kona Gold F2s, Panama Red F2 and Skunk #1 IBLs for a few years now. Love the old school herb and buzz ![]()
Yeah. Itās hard to beat good Bo. I scored my my first oz of Columbian red bud when I was 17 Iām 63 now and it still stands out in my memory ![]()
Iām 61 and thatās why I started on this journey. Panama Red and Columbian Gold were my 1st 2 at 14 years old. I created 2 strains and they seemed to have turned out pretty good and have that old school buzz. I crossed a Panama Red male with a Kona Gold female and used the same Panama pop to cross with a Columbian Gold ![]()
May I ask what breeding technique you used?
I start with Regular seeds of the two strains I want to cross. I dropped 26 in total when I created the Kona Red. Anyway I select a female and male that have the structure, growth vigor and appearance Iām looking for. Iāll take that male and induce flowering 2 weeks before the female and then toss them in the honeymoon tent and let nature do its thing. I then collect the seeds (regulars) and start the selection process again for a select female that has what Iām looking for. Iāll take cuttings from the select female for the reversal and feminized seed run. I use STS to treat one of the female clones 1 week before inducing flowering with the light change and toss the other female in with the reversed female 2-3 weeks later. I treat that female once weekly during that 2-3 weeks later period, usually 3 treatments work with spraying all the growth points/bud sites. Additionally the male will start dropping pollen around week 4-6 and the females are most receptive to pollination around week 3 of flowering. This is the reason for the 2-3 week difference versus tossing both in the tent at the same time for flowering. The journey and most difficult part is selecting that perfect female and male to cross. I use reputable breeders for my regular seeds and prefer regulars due to their hardiness, disease resistance and overall toughness and use those for reproduction ![]()
The f2s would have a lot of different phenos yeah? F2 would be great for mystery buds or if you wanted to isolate a specific allele, you could get a bunch of different plant types. If you grew 100 you could determine dominant and recessive.
You might wanna try Christmas bud? The guys at CSI Humbolt have an S1 I believe? Its the same stuff we usec to get around xmas every year in the 80s⦠tastes amazing, good mexican sativa high and smells like sweet pine trees. My guess is its a Mexican⦠likely Oaxacan x pineter kush?
Yep several different pheno expressions with the F2s. The F1 crosses created came out very nice and vigorous ![]()
I remember Christmas tree!.. 80s⦠Yeah. Closer to what NYsour dub is now. We were hearing it to be from Canada actually. If you reverse the grow calendar dates, it lines up with a cold fall harvest in July/August then 3month Cure landing right in November, plus a month to go into āsalesā.
Was one of our favorites here on the east Coast.
Thanks for the explanation @OGIncognito
Anytime Grow Sis, basically in a nutshell explanation ![]()
