Closer to harvest time

We raised Morgan horses in this barn and had a couple of goals here. Wonderful!

Awesome. I just had the horses. And of course, barn cats. Horses and cats were trained to whistle for feeding time

Ours too! Loved having them run in from the pastures for feeding time.

@1BigFella guess What!? They came back!!!

Yes I did plant it a little late but that shouldnā€™t matter because of the dark period. I usually harvest in late October. Haha thatā€™s not much snow. I get up to 5-6 feet.
So for tonight I put a tarp over the big one and a towel over the small ones

Iā€™m sure you know more about protecting plants from frost than I do! Never had to do it. I guess the ground is still warmer than freezing so it will keep a little tent warm overnight.

WOW! That is fantastic and good to know. I have always known they were hardy plants but this is reall awesome. More respect yet for this plant! Thanks for sharing!

@SmoknGranny @kolive the tomatoes were not so lucky lol

Yep. Tomatoes and strawberries hate the frost. Sorry you lost the tommytoes :frowning:

Oh itā€™s alright it was only 7ā€™ tall lol!

Iā€™m jealous. Best I ever had was 6ā€™ in Florida :+1::blush:

Weird! My summer month is way shorter then yours. I did remove the lower branches and planted it 2 feet into the ground maybe, try that next year?
Also used fresh chicken s**t / compost in the home as well, the total depth of the hole was about 3 1/2 feet deep maybe 1 - 2ā€™ in diameter.

The Mothers are in large pots this year. We had a very wet beginning of spring so that delayed their time outdoor. Even the local farmers were late growing here this year.
I really have no option next spring other than pots due to poor soil heavy with clay and staying stealth. My grow partner has taken the most risks for the past year and has done the bulk of the work. I donā€™t think thatā€™s been fair to her so Iā€™m going to reciprocate next spring

I feel your pain on the clay soil. Thatā€™s why I did a very larg hole. I used to do stealth till I got my license, i tried a guerilla grow on my property down by the creek in pots. It sucked lol. Ended up moving them up to the house. All the dumb bushes kept blocking light so my fan leafs got humongous because the lack of sun. At least I think?

With my limited physical abilities it took me two days each to bury two of my old dogs last month. I didnā€™t get to bury them as deep as I wanted. I have a place behind my house next to water tap and somewhat hidden. Grew veggies there this year in containers. I may add a small greenhouse there also

Oh shoot sorry to hear about that. Thatā€™s never fun, had my fair share of those days. Growing veggies is always fun. I have been looking at greenhouses on amazon. One is 20ā€™x10ā€™x7ā€™ high and itā€™s only 100 bucks or at least my brain remembers it that way haha. But that seems like a decent deal for a quick greenhouse, has lots of vents a huge door with zippers and tones of tie down points.

Iā€™m going much smaller $40 on clearance. I think I can assemble it by myself

Hereā€™s my location before the watermelon vine totally overran it.

I learned a lot with this experience

Ahh I see. Not very wide there. Iā€™m wanting a big greenhouse so I can frolic down the rows. I have loads of nerve pain. (so pacing is needed lots of the time) from my lower back down to my toes (right side) and my damn butt cheek kills me, itā€™s also shrinking and very noticeable. Now my left side is starting to do it. Canā€™t win so grow some goodies :joy: tried to upload a picture of my tomatoes plant but it wonā€™t load

Small and easy to maintain and easier to be stealth.

Haha this is very true! @SmoknGranny
