I have grown outdoors for the last 22 years and just this year I wanted to grow indoors as well. I don’t know anything about growing indoors. If anyone would be so kind and help me through my first grow I would greatly appreciate it and I would be in debt to you. My first situation is I have already started my plants in my tent I have them on a 18/6 lighting. When it’s time to defoliate the plants I’m planning on using the cuttings to start clones for the outdoor grow . As long as the clones get more than 12 hours of sunlight outside would they stand a chance of premature flowering?.. What would be the correct way of doing this?
Outdoors it’s a little different. Especially depending on where you live and how many hours of light you typically get during the grow season. My outdoor plants don’t start flowering until August and there’s still 14 hours of light a day. You should be fine to take clones and stick them outside to veg throughout the spring and early summer.
If you would put up the particulars of your indoor grow setup that would be helpful to critique/suggest anything you’ve overlooked. Like Matty said; you should be able to put out clones with no real issues.
I do find my cuttings take better if they are under modest light and a 24/0 light schedule: this forces capillary action to occur so plants remain upright with less wilting throughout the rooting process.
Okay thank you!! I live in the lower 48 in the Southeastern part.
Thank you!!! I’m starting 40 plants (Blue Dream x20. Train wreck x20) I have a 10x10 grow tent with a 8 inch inline exhaust fan with charcoal filter. I have two Vivosun 1000watt hps mh air cooled lights and four Tmlapy 3000w (260 actual watts) led sunlike. I’m using a humidifier and I’m using Inkbird ITC-308 thermostat for heating and cooling. I’m starting the plants in my 4x4 tent using 1 Tmlapy 3000w. After the seedling stage I’m going to transplant them in a 10 gallon or 15 gallon grow bags I really haven’t decided on what size grow bags yet. Do you have any recommendations ? They should reach vegetation stage next week. I think ?
I wouldn’t go any bigger than 3 gallon pots for that many plants. 5 gallon max and you’ll have to flip really early to not outgrow the space. 40 plants is a lot and they will take over any space they are allowed to
How many would you recommend for a 10x10 tent?
Pot size will have more to do than how many. A 5gallon pot can easily take up a 3x3 area. I run small pots and more plants for my area, but I don’t have a 10x10 space to work with. That would be amazing! I’m jealous.
I find 4 square foot per plant to be insufficient, and that’s when I can access them easily. In a 100 square foot that would be a maximum of 25 assuming I didn’t need to enter the room…
If I was ever lucky enough to have that much space, I would grow about 8 plants, 4 on each side of the room with space to walk down the middle.
Okay, thank you for your knowledge. I really don’t mean to ask too many questions. But I’m new to this and I have a lot invested and don’t want to screw up. …What would bring a bigger yield? All of the 5 gallon bags I can fit in the tent with smaller plants but it would be more plants or bigger 15 gallon bags fewer plants but bigger plants? This might sound like a stupid question but this has been on my mind and until you I haven’t had anyone to ask .
I personally would not do anything larger than 3 gallon pots. Anything over 5 gallon belongs outside IMO. We are here to answer questions, so don’t feel bad about it. Let me tag in a couple others and they can offer their opinions as well… @imSICKkid @dbrn32 @Myfriendis410 @Not2SureYet @Covertgrower do you know anyone with a similar grow space and or can you offer any suggestions?
This is what Matty and I are here for so ask away!
I like to use about 6 square feet per plant but unlike Matty I prefer larger plants. 3 gallon in your 10 X 10 would be fine and frankly I’d pot up a couple of times to take advantage of their small size: Solo cups would hold all of your plants under one light which would save some $$. Water management is easier when they’re small as well.
I also prefer 3 gallon containers, and think that you would do just fine with that size. The space will be the factor when your canopy gets larger.
Ask a way!
Okay, thank you, I’m starting to figure out more is not always a good thing.
Thank you, It is amazing to have a group of experience growers to talk to and ask advice from. I really do appreciate all of the knowledge that everyone here has shared or will share in the future. It’s a hell of a step up. Thank you guys !!
I’m going to use two VIVOSUN 1000watt hps mh air cooled lights and four tmlapy 3000w (260 actual watts) sunlike led lights. (I read that hps&mh lighting used with led lights is a good combination. I don’t know if that is true or not but it made sense)Is this more than enough or just right or not enough?
Check out SOG growing. Basically you still fill up the grow space but you do it with more small plants rather then a few big ones. It’s a faster turn around as well
Hillbilly, these plants… are they destined for an outdoor? If so what size plants are hoping to get? How much area / soil do you have?
Here in BC I pre veg from Feb until beginning of may indoors. The first bit at 18/6 typically andbthe last couple of weeks prior to plant out I switch to 16/8
I grow big dope! 12 feet and up.
The scrog technique looks awesome. I’m going to try it hopefully I’ll get it right. It looks like the only way to grow indoors. I have been watching as many scrog videos on YouTube as I can. What are some main pointers to the scrog tech.?
I have started my first ever indoor grow about two weeks ago. I have grown outdoors around 18 years. But I know nothing about indoor growing and I’m always learning about outdoor growing and I’m eager to learn more about it. I just love growing. I have started my indoor grow and as soon as they get old enough and big enough I’m going to trim them and take the cuttings to clone them for my outdoor grow. Kindly killing two birds with one stone type of thing. Getting to your question, I try to grow trees outdoors I push my plants as hard as they let me. I probably won’t get huge plants from the clones because I won’t be able to clone from my plants until couple of months and that will be first of may. Which the growing season where I live isn’t over until the middle to late October. With that said I started a couple of plants from seed that I got at ILGM to see how big I can get them by starting them on the inside at the 1st part of March. I’ll probably be able to transplant them around last of May to the first of June. If you have any pointers I would greatly appreciate any that you have .
