I have some plants colas look loose. Should i clip any of the lower small buds right now to direct energy to the top? Here is pic of 1 plant
Pic 1 and 3 are close up lower buds of pic # 2 .
I do on all bud sites that don’t have a good chance at developing. Not only to direct energy but to open up the plant to let wind get through it. Helps prevent bud rot.
I just don’t want to bald/ stress or take away energy producing leaves in the flowering cycle. This is really the farthest/best ive made it this late . Indoor or outdoor. I looked up sour d flowering time , 10-12. Apparently not a good choice for ohio. I don’t journal and don’t know exact start of flower , but id say week 4 . Hopefully they start stacking. I also have a post " will these cola come together" i dont want to grow bs plants. My best plant has 5 blades on it others go to 9. Maybe indica dom next year.
Also its tough for me to clip any part with white hairs. Its a small bud. But i guess i need to wiegh non producing buds/ main cola. Airflow and energy or a tiny bud. Also i clip some fan leaves on lower bottom randomly . If it not in the sun i dont think important i just dont want to shock the plant. I have a little leaf burn on tips anyone here use ff tiger bloom? Im about to try to give a mini flush.
Like @BobbyDigital, I remove all lower growth that won’t amount to much. I don’t remove the leaves, just the sucker shoots.
Most folks defoliate but I don’t unless the plant needs more air flow.
I’m a big believer in opening the plant up for airflow and sunshine to parts of the plant that are actually going to produce. I always try to limit the clip to less than 20% of plant volume and then give it a full week to recuperate. Also, you didn’t state if it is an autoflower or a photoperiod plant? It’s harder on autoflowers as they don’t have the same recovery time of a photoperiod. You mentioned not wanting to grow BS plants. Well, especially outdoors, there are a lot of things that can happen. I only grow outdoors, so I’m kinda familiar with the pitfalls. But if your seed genetics are strong, you are paying attention to the grow, and feeding/watering well, you should be good. ILGM is really good about listing their THC percentages on the seed site as well as recommended climates. But no seed supplier can protect you from bad weather, bugs and caterpillars, bud rot, animals, etc… But your plants look good and it seems like they are doing really well. They definitely look better after opening them up. You are on the right path. Best of luck.
Everything underneath that isnt main cola is what I trim. Not too worried about light but the little subgrowth at each node beneath the main, gets trimmed all the way up to harvest.
Well late reply. Ive worked 4 -14 hour days this week. These are photo , sour d. says 10-12 week flowering. I think week 5 . Overall right now yellow green with very yellow fan leaves. Im leaving on leaves even some yellow. I don’t know if yellowish because of cold temps at night low 40S. Or over water nutes or under water nutes. Ive had minor burn on tips for awhile. Only 3 caterpillars so far no bud rot. I had 2 kind of turn yellow for awhile in veg. Seemed to quit growing i hope not effecting flowering.
Kind of yellow but i think its the cold Hopefully 4-6 more weeks of flower . Still a lot of white hais
