I’m doing another 16 day hang/cure in the tent so going to be a while till I can enjoy it so will vicariously through you guys haha. It has been super humid here too. Did the smell increase at chop?
Yeah it did. But not by much. Im assuming it was from me whipping the branches back and forth while removing them and the fan leaves lol.
I have never just chopped the plant at base and hung it, but my buddy swears by it. Says the fan leaves help keep the plant moist longer during drying. I may try it sometime.
Yeah after I saw build-a-soil doing that way I went that route on my first grow, worked well. Not sure if I’m going to do branches with the leaves intact or full plant this time. It def adds time but then you don’t have to mess with burping.
I have been chopping whole plants for the last several grows.
What are the benefits you find from doing this style? I have been chopping branch by branch on every grow so far, and removing fan leaves before drying. I just worried before about the buds potentially molding, but now that im more comfortable with my made environment, i dont think that mold would be an issue.
Chop day is less work. Drying is slower.
It does make the peroxide rinse a bit more difficult but not bad.
Ive started chopping and hanging whole plant. Ill hang for 3 days, pull it out and chop the dead stuff off, let her hang until shes dry. Last round took 11 days
Yup you get that slow dry. Breaks down the chlorofil for longer and you can skip the burping process. Of course skipping only if you get to the right moisture level. I am for 11 on the wood meter. The buds will still age some after being in jars and the aroma develop.
So long as you keep the tent close to 60F but up to low 70s is fine and at 60% rH with some non-direct light airflow you shouldn’t run into mold. But it can happen just like wet trimmed. I’ve not washed my stuff before hanging though. My plant was a bush too when I put it up, I didn’t remove anything fan wise. No mold or issue. Took 17 days to get where I wanted it. I was at 65-70 this was during winter. Then had a humidifier keeping it at 60%
This is the video I watched
and this:
Im gonna reveg one of my NL5BX plants. Im gonna clip the branches but keep the plant alive. The other two Ill probably dry the plants whole.
It’s not all water, the stems are going to account for the majority of wet weight not accounted for in buds that have been put in jars.
If wet weight was taken solely from buds that didn’t include stems I would expect dry weight to be much more than typical 20-25% of wet weight.
Mine did and while wet trimming it my hands with black nitrile gloves were so oily and sticky. Very solid nuggets as well. I dont waste my time weighing it wet because to me its a waste of time. If I’d have weighed what i just choped off my Hazeberry id of had over 5lbs but its worthless weighing it wet, I cut em then hang em and then wet trim them to make it easier to manicure when its ready to be jarred. Im on day 4 on my hanging
Never actually wet weighed so don’t have any evidence either way. Just something I read months ago a handful of places. Not saying that makes it correct or anything. My last and first grow gave me 21oz on a single plant dried, bucked, and trimmed from branches/stems. Would have been interesting to have the wet weight for anecdotal curiosity though.
This thread ran a few years ago with folks self-reporting.

Looks killer man! I can’t wait for chop and trim on these bad ladies! I can imagine you would be covered in oil from them.
Right. Im just saying that the stems account for more weight than water. If wet weight includes stems and dry weight doesn’t is when you’ll see ~20%. If you take wet weight of only buds vs dry weight of only buds the result will be higher than 20% wet to dry yield.
Makes sense
You chopped already? Nice to see they finished out before mothers day.
I’ve been terrible at keeping up with grow logs on here.
I chopped the other northern light, the grow off one is still in progress
