Charcoal filter needed?

Do you need the charcoal filter on the exhaust fan if you’re venting to the outside air?

I bought the kit together, so just set up the filter system. Now, just realizing I don’t need it since it all goes outside anyway. It will give me another 8-10 inches of grow space in the tent if removed. Anything I’m missing?

Only need it if you’re trying to hide smell.
If smell isn’t a problem then not needed no matter where it vents.
I never use them and vent inside.

Perfect! I’ll remove it. Thanks!

You mentioned space in the tent.
I don’t even have the fan inside my tent at all,
Its literally just sitting in the hole up top

Yep, that’s what I did too. But the charcoal filter was still inside. Now there’s nothing up there except the lights. :+1:

Just a follow up. Pulled the filter out and now have another 10 inches to grow in the tent. However, my vent outside is by my patio and can smell it all the time! It’s cool, legal here and we like the smell anyway . At least we know the filter was working before.

I have a carbon filter so far no odor.
The extra head room is a must!

Another bonus of removing the filter is your fan will be able to deliver its rated CFM. If you have a way to measure, you may find it increases as much as 2X.

You are spot on. I also doubled the LED light wattage from 200 to 400, and was worried it would get too hot in the tent. However, the added fan speed actually brought the temp down 2 degrees from normal.

Wow. I never would have expected removing the filter to double your light’s wattage. Was it directly below the light?

I think they meant they turned the light up aftet creating some room and feeling more comfortable with the heat increase

I had to read it a couple of times to, I was like  was the filter makeing the fan pull that many amps
But there’s no way :pensive:
