good tidings to all. i’m going to be away for about two weeks from two jack herer plants during their 7th and 8th week from germination. firmly into veg and looking good but i know i can’t leave them for two weeks with no water. my question is whether or not the ceramic watering spikes are a viable option. i’m talking about the ones that go into the soil, then you place a soda/wine bottle full of water into them and in theory the plant takes what it needs i guess. i’ve had good luck with these spikes on regular house plants, (philodendrons/ivy/violets) but not sure if they are appropriate for cannabis. also, if they ARE an acceptable option would the expert advice be to use pH balanced water, flawless finish for an impromptu slow motion flush, or some combo of nute water. i know they’ll be into the nute added time of their life and worry that missing those two weeks might cause some problems with the end result. thanks in advance and best regards.
If that’s your only option, then that’s what you’ll have to do, but I don’t think that’ll hold you for two weeks. I would be looking for a baby sitter if that’s an option.
I bought the AC Infinity self-watering bases and they hold a gallon of water and it didn’t last me but 4 days. @Dexterado hit the nail on the head with the babysitter idea. You can always check out Bluemat watering system might work with a big enough reservoir.
Thanks @DoneDeal and @Dexterado for the responses. looks like my ceramic spikes are a non starter. i’ll have to come up with a different plan of attack…but i can be assured it won’t involve a baby sitter. living in an 0/55 community makes those kind of requests fairly unpopular. maybe a timed system with a five gallon bucket. thanks again.
I use them now and have them in a gallon jug for each plant and has lasted over two weeks so far.
@Bugs1 thanks for the response. are you referring to the ceramic spikes or a self watering timing system? i’m a little confused as to what you’re saying. pretty exciting if you have the spikes working off a gallon jug, but not sure how that would be set up. any further information or pictures will be appreciated. thanks in advance and best regards.
I use the ceramic spikes and have been testing them as I go away for two weeks as well. I have two regulars spikes in each 5 gallon pot. It has kept them well watered for over two weeks with 1 gallon per 2spikes per pot. It works perfect
@Bugs1 Sounds great and i appreciate the follow up. what are you using for containers to put INTO the spikes that are 1/2 gallon in capacity? that’s got me confused a bit as two wine bottles would not be that much, right? again thanks.
I am using 1 gallon plastic milk jugs
Sorry I have the ones with tubes
