If you use a black light in the dark the catapillers glow and are very easy to see!

Unfortunately caterpillars are usually deep inside the buds. A black light only works if the caterpillars are crawling on the buds and branches or the ground. I deal with them mother f¥€kers every year, some years worse than others. Ive never been able to find any caterpillars using my black light, found some scorpions . However, I have found tuns of them during the day just before sunset but most of them aren’t found until I see some leaves dying on a cola and open it up. F/N bastards.

I found quite a few using this method. The only things I’ve ever had in my buds though are stalk borrers when they emerge in the fall. But I’ve got pretty good at stopping them from ever burrowing into my stalks!

Be careful using black lights, they are ultra violet and can damage your eyes and skin.

Glad to know that! Are there some special glasses a guy could wear?

You can use any decent sunglasses that have a light tint or you can buy special glasses specifically designed to work with UV lights.

You can use normal sunglasses with a dark tint but it’s really hard to see anything at night when you wear dark tinted sunnies.

Purecrop 1 and Monterey B.t. works well.

@sdoyle i used the pure crop one last season. It worked great except for the leaf hoppers. Didn’t seem to hurt them. I dusted my plants with flour during veg to rid the garden of most of those pesky leaf hoppers

Flower is the only thing that works on grasshoppers but I won’t use it on flowering plants. I dont want to smoke flower. Pun intended.

I dust with flour early in the season never during flower.
