Anyone ever wash a carbon filter ? Did it work after washing ?
Or should i just get a couple of new ones ?
Never tried. Changing the carbon on some is a option.
What’s your wash method?
I’ve heard of drying in low temp oven
I’ve pondered drilling mine and refilling them
I buy 12 pound bags on Amazon and drill the rivets out of the end the outlet is on, pull the top off and there’s a mesh bag in there. Pour old carbon out and chuck it in the compost pile. Refill bag to rim and replace top, run 1inch drywall screws in old rivet holes and bam! New filter for 1/3 the cost. I’ve heard of baking them in a warm oven but never tried. My deer hunting scent proof clothing goes in dryer on high to recharge the carbon….
Just an FYI, they make refillable carbon fliters. I think ACI has them.
I dig it
And they send a refill with them have 2 here for when my others need renewed!
Bought AC infinity refillable, I tried to open one and refill but I bent the shell to much.
I think washing would load the carbon more by washing it, it would put stuff out of the water like a britta filter. When you have new activated carbon you can rinse it to remove dust from the surface to allow more exposure to the surface pores…
Love the recycling, so I went and found some info that may help. Steam cleaning may be a “wash” option if you have low tds water.

As @Growdoc mentioned, fresh carbon is cheap and readily available. His method for turning an ordinary filter into a refillable one reduces the cost dramatically and is worth a try. I know I will.
Does anyone other than AC offer refillable filters?
