I have seen a few spots on the inside of my grow tent that im sure is mold im in my 6th week with autos i haven’t witnessed anything directly on the plants yet. I have already sprayed an tryed to wipe the spots off but they seem to come back. What can i possibly do about this problem im not tryna put real chemicals in the tent with the plants any suggestions?
Peroxide is great for treating mold. Longer term, what is the humidity in your grow space.?
Humidity is about 60 to 50% im also in flower at the moment where should my Humidity actually be? 47% is probably the lowest my humidity go
I would shoot for 40% Doing what you can to increase airflow will greatly help.
Thanks so much so should i maybe open another vent at the bottom or top?
Suggest fans
Bet an thank u
Heat rises, open bottom and fan exhaust from top.
So open 1 of the top vents also?
No, open a bottom vent and plumb your exhaust out of the top of the tent.
I have 3 bottom vents open, and run my exhaust fan out of the port in the top of the tent with the pull cord cinched up on the exhaust duct.
I also have four 6" oscillating fans inside the tent, 2 above and 2 below the canopy one in each of the 4 corners. The clip ons are great they allow for easy adjustment as the girls grow.
As far as any spots, the woman uses a vinegar & peroxide mix which works better than either by itself. Dont spray it, soak a CLEAN rag and just wipe / scrub it off. If it’s a tough spot dampen it pretty good with the rag and let it sit for 5 or 10 min, then clean it.
I would think it may be a good idea to wipe as much of the surfaces as you can reach without getting any on the girls. If need be, open everything you can on the tent and use a box fan to dry it off quicker after you’ve cleaned it.
BTW, for anyone who reads this, check your peroxide, it does have a shelf life. At work we used it to sanitize the water systems and once we opened the containers, we had 48 hours to use it. (Different strength, ours would turn your skin to chalk and burn like hell)
Ty so much for that info. By any chance could you possibly show me a pic of your grow space so i can get an idea of a good set up. An again thanks for that info because i definitely forgot about vinegar being a cleaning agent
The vents you see on the bottom of the tent walls are all open.
You can also see the exhaust duct on the top of the tent going into the ceiling.
A dehumidifier is a helpful part of equipment growers need. 40 for humidity is target to assist in preventing mold during flowering stage. Don’t want buds to mold after all your efforts to have a successful grow.
I saw no pictures of the culprit but based on your desription, I am wondering if what you are seeing is the build up of a white substance that is caused by the type of humidifier you have? I switched to evaporative for this reason. It is a build up of the hardwater and the ultrasonic combo. When I switched to RO water and bought the new humidifier, all of that went away.
So i actually do have dehumidifier in the basement that im in maybe i need 1 inside the tent i also have my humidifier inside the tent do i need to take it out i see you dont have yours sitting directly in the tent unless i overlooked it.
My dehumidifier is in the lung room, right in front of the tent. I keep the lung room RH around 28/30% RH. I keep the bottom side vents of the tent open and use the exhaust fan to draw the dry air into the tent. Keeping the lung room RH low, I can set the fan to start slowly triggered by humidity with the ACI controller 69 pro.
I also have a small window a/c which keeps my temps down pretty good, and helps with humidity. It’s an old one with dials, it comes back on with power outages. I cleaned it up disassembled and sealed the front fan and ducting, from the outside compressor area. I still get a little air through it from the exhaust fan in the tent.
If your lung room isn’t sealed pretty good, it will draw in whatever it can where ever it can. Where my duct goes into the ceiling there was a 3/8 opening about 1/2 way around the duct, It would blow out my lighter from 6"s away. My attic is vented to the outside so I was sucking in humidity like crazy.
No I don’t have the humidifier in the tent. In the first pic the black tube sticking up in the corner is my humidifier, I took the tube out and don’t use it. It was only in there because the ole lady was using the tent for DWC lettuce in Jan / Feb. Most of the time in my area humidity is crazy high. Winter with seedlings is the only time I expect to use it for my grows. Most people struggle with high humidity, same for me.
Not that I wouldn’t put either humidifier or dehumidifier in the tent, I just don’t have room.
You can see the two upper fans and there is two lower fans under the canopy. I defoliate the lower leaves until I can see leaves dancing a little all the way across from the fan.
