This will be my 2nd grow. I am using an Active Aqua Grow Flow 6 - 2gal buckets of hydroton. The last time I germinated in Rockwool plugs. Can I use Rapid Rooters the same way without any additional considerations?
I’ve only had one grow so far but I used rapid rooters & put them straight into hydroclay using a GH hydrofarm. worked great as far as rooting & transplanting into hydroclay.
@pillsbury
Thanks for the response. I was concerned that the rooters might breakdown and mess with the pumps. Did you have any debris? I’m not sure if you were using their DWC or the Ebb & Flow Hydrofarm.
Thanks again

no debis, thats what they are made for according to GH. The Hydrofarm is a continious flow (could put it on a timer) it has a water pump that is powered by an air pump & uses hydroclay. Of course you could use the rooter for alot of different things (but not flying a plane or driving a car). I saw a person that cut a slot thru the side to the hole in the middle & placed her sprouted seedling in the slot & put in the hydroclay. I just put a seed in the hole, pinched of a chunk of the rooter off & stuck it in the hole covering the seed & ta-da sprouted great.
I screwed up an put 2 White Widow Autoflowers In the same pot not knowing about phenotypes in plants. I figured they would grow the same, not so, different growth rate, different height even tho I fim’d them & lst’d the crap out of them It was my first grow so I experimented a little. one per pot for me now. all in all even with my mess ups the smoke is powerful. I wish I would have used 1/2 of the nutrients, didn’t listen to the more experianced growers. Next grow & probably all my grows will be more experiments, I wanna try spliting the stems so a photo gender will be next. Why spliting? I don’t know just wanna try it. Have fun with it.
Remember I said the ring pump thing had clogged an I looked like Dizzy Gilespie blowin on the air hose to free it up? Well it finally quit completly & this is why
I only had 4 of 6 show their heads. I believe I let the Rooters get too wet. I’m dropping 2 more so I can use all 6 buckets.
Man that’s some root mass!
I think it said about 1/4 inch of water in the bottom of the cup was plenty. On mine the stems were real pale so I put in a mix (very light) of nutrients, and in about 1/2 hour the stems were a redish purple.
I mixed up a quart GH flora at about 500ppm and sprayed the girls and dropped 2 more seeds in Rooters. It will be a couple of more days before I fire up the buckets and drop some girls in.
just cut the last of the plant down & cleaned out the hydro unit. When I cleaned the hydroclay ( pain in the ass) there were only two tiny pieces of the rooter to be found an I think they were the pieces I tore off & stuffed in the hole on top of the seeds.
I just get a new bag and rinse it out well. It’s worth it to me to not have to clean and sterilize. It’s not that expensive either. I just put the 1st grows clay in with our vegetable garden.
I’d much rather just rinse than have to clean that mess (although that was my intention when I started)
I’ve got a large bag downstairs but I wanted to see just how big of a deal it was to clean and it was. I’m retired with lots of time (Usually) I’ll probably pitch it next time and go for the new.
