My tap water ( city) is almost always 6.8 but we chopped 2 down and after a week or so went to start another one checked new nutes and tap PH . My tap has been at 12.34 for the last few days now.
You Municipality may be doing something on their end. Doubt the rainwater would have any effect on city maintained water. Just a thought.
Also you should double check your ph pens calibration for insurance it didn’t drift out of range.
Thank you I just don’t understand how it would be so far out especially if it is municipal water from treatment plant maybe we have a busted supply pipe that is leeching in pollution from ground and run off etc. Pens are on point.
They could be flushing upstream from you somewhere or maybe some other type of scheduled maintenance? At least you caught it prior to use. Could’ve caused you a nasty case of nute lock out.
Agreed absolutely disaster averted,! But besides my ladies I’m sure not cool for us to drink either, I mean I hardly got enough floride in mine anymore I like my water blue and toothpastec. Was raised on floride and alkaline I guess. Swear I miss those elementary days we did swish floride as a class every Monday Wednesday and Friday.
Contact your local department of water resources, water board, etc…it is literally someone’s job there to be able to tell you what is going on.
Google your zip code and “water analysis” and it should bring it right up. Everything you ever wanted to know about your water quality.
Holy crap ph of 12?? What does that smell like?? Whats the ppm?
Cities have been covering up these little white lies for ever. Latest discoveries, AAAF firefighting foam, or pfas.
Flint Michigan, enough said on trusting city who test and dumps chemicsls in to control readings supplied to its citizens.
Want to really know, pay for your water to be done by independant party.
Rains wash our pollutants into our water supplies.
If you haven’t yet, calibrate your pH meter. That way you can rule out a faulty reading.
A pH of 12 is incredibly high and unsafe, close to ammonia or bleach. That could eve damage your skin. If your tap is coming out at 12 pH, I’m much more concerned about your health and safety than the plants. Talk to your municipality ASAP if this is a true reading. Bottled water only for drinking and brushing teeth.
Ok talked to water distribution center for our locale. They informed me that this morning they took P.H. from the distribution point and it was 10.1 that normal PH for them is around the same because too much lower water becomes positively charged and starts absorbing metals etc. For the last 3 months I took a PH almost daily and was 6.8 like it was meant to be. So regarding the pen I am using recalibrated last night this morning and replaced the batteries it gets consistent readings of 3.24 in beer 4.3 in milk and the buffer solution 6.86 @ 25°C so junk pen but has been reading correctly the water department is on the way to conduct a CCR water quality test at our home. Soooooo… … I dunno!

Good luck ; but good for you following-up regardless, for your health if nothing else.
Appreciate you and everyone else for the replies and consideration
