Howdy fellow growers! I have been growing now for over 3 years and have never had what I would call a ‘GREAT’ harvest. The most I have ever gotten is a little over 2 oz off of 5 plants. I have done many tweaks over the years to try and improve that, including taking a 9-month spadical to recharge my mental understanding. Let me start off by letting you all know what I am working with. As the thread’s name inclines, I use soil to plant my girls in. I have used a variety of soils over the years including Fox Farms for the majority of it but the last time I planted I used my own mix of Humus Compost and chicken manure. The last grow was a complete failure as my girls Hermed on me and I didn’t get much useable bud. (I believe this was my fault as I neglected the girls’ water schedule.) My current grow is going so much better and I am seeing a big difference as I am in the middle of week 6 flower on some purple haze. The only thing I did different was I increased my watering/feeding. As this grow is more than midway through its flowering time, I am starting to plan my next grow. I am using a 3x5x6.5 Vivosun grow tent. I have HLG 350 Diablo 350W 120V LED Quantum Board Grow Light. I am planting in 7 gallon smart pots or Aeration Fabric Pot. Here is where my question comes in and that is the nuts. I have only ever used Advance Nutrients pH Perfect® Sensi Grow & Bloom as my base and I have used their recipe for my grows to include ALL the recommended nuts. I am looking for something else to use other than AN. I have heard a lot about Jacks 1-2-3, but as I review the feeding chart I get all kind of confused as to what I need to buy. When searching the net, well you all know the endless black hole that you find. So my fellow soil growers, what are you using for nutrients, and what has been your success? if you have pictures please share. what you see here is my current grow and I believe that this will be by far my best harvest unless something drastic happens. Thanks all and I look forward to seeing what you have to say.
I guess I can’t edit my post, so I want to clarify, the most I have ever harvest is a total of 9oz. I am wanting to do better than that. Thanks all.
Do you do any topping or training ? I used that line of nutes for 2 grows too much mixing to many plastic bottles and always a problem with caps leaking but i had good luck with it. This last grow i used general hydroponics micro, flora gro, flora bloom and hygrozyme, calimagic, fish sht, recharge and in bloom stage i used bud candy and overdrive. The general hydroponics line is what nasa uses in space when they grow whatever up there. Did you say 9 oz from 5 plants?
I grow outside, in the soil. As seedlings I have them in 5 gallon buckets as pots, a 50/50 blend of local soil and store bought compost. Then when I am ready to put them into the ground, I dig a big hole and life each plant from its bucket directly into the hole.
2023 was disaster, we had solid rain May and June. My entire garden area was over a foot of standing water. All my plants drowned.
2022 every plant I had produced 1.5 pounds.
I started growing hydroponic this last grow so far My dry weight is 3.6 lbs for 6 plants that were autos this was only my 1st grow in hydroponic setting and 4 th total. It’s all about training, your set up including light power and nutrients used. Some growers get a pound per plant. Of course genetics plays a large role in success to. Your light is a good light but I’m not sure it’s enough for your size tent. Good luck my friend and happy growing.
yes, I top this current harvest and I did more pruning on the lower portion of the plants and removed large fan leaves. I have done LST, and that was the best crop where out of 5 plants I harvested 9 oz. I agree to much mixing and the caps are horrible. That is one reason why I am looking for different nutrients that will cut down on the mixing and the mess of leaking caps. The other reason is that I want to see what others are using and the success they are having.
I have looked at going hydro, or maybe DW, but the expense of changing to that is more than I have right now.
don’t have a place to plant outside, i know that is the best way to go but that isn’t an option for me right now.
Yes I understand it took me awhile of saving to be able to… keep a eye out foe deals on market place you may find something that you can use at a huge discount. A lot of growers make there own and they work much better than what you can purchase. Good luck my friend and happy growing
Photo or auto, oh and also on that list of nutes i forgot armor si ( silica )
Looks like your current grow is doing real well!
Congrats
I grow in living soil using organic amendments and have since 2018.
Use mostly Down To Earth products over the years.
This round I’m using Build A Soil 3.0 nutrient mix that I mixed into Fox Farms ocean Forrest and as of now has been a water only grow other than an occasional aerated compost tea to keep the soil critters happy.
Take a look at their web site has much info on it.
Here is my journal over most of my grows except the first one.
Here is a thread that has other organic soil growers.
Many different ways to grow this wonderful plant and many peeps on here ready to help.
Enjoy the day
So you only have one 350w light or am I reading that wrong?
Best way to increase yield is to increase your light.
i do the normal female, not auto.
yes, one light, but the light takes up most of the tent. from the research i did before i purchased it, it should be big enough for my tent.
I have always wondered how worm casings would work, thanks for sharing. I have a small farm with chickens, rabbits, turkeys, ducks, and pigs. I have tried starting a worm farm a while back and it’s been on my mind to try again now that I have rabbits. From my understanding, they love rabbit poo. I would love to be more organic and use the resources I have available to me. I have read that having worms in your pot when growing vegs helps the vegs grow, have you experimented with that at all?
I love the worms in the pot. They come up at night and deposit castings on the surface of the soil. Honestly, I feel if there are not worms in your living soil, how living is it? What I mean is living worms are my baseline for everything is running smoothly in the pot.
Worms digest nutrients in soil and make them more available for plants. The enzymes in a worm’s digestive tract are good for increasing soil fertility. Many university studies have proven this. Worm castings are great !
ok lets talk living soil. what is it and where do you get it or do you make it? do you use any other nuts?
From my understanding the rabbit poo has been digested a second time and is ready to go as fertilizer.
The other animal poo you mentioned is too hot and would need to be composted first.
“ having worms in your pot when growing vegs helps the vegs grow, have you experimented with that at all?
Yep
Worms are outside in nature doing their thing so yea inside pots if you treat them well will be able to support worms too.
Bigger pots are easier to maintain the right conditions for the worms to thrive.
Regardless of watering practices I spray the top of soil pretty much daily as all living things need water to survive
I’m also new to the game . I get about 9 to 10 ounces per plant . I grow only 2 in my basement bathroom . I used living soil there like 40 a bag and coco loco . I poured coco loco 2/3 on the bottom and living soil in the middle and coco loco and the top 1/3. I don’t flush I don’t add anything extra . Just water everyday . I would filled 12 solo cups of tap water sit for a day in the grow room and used that to water my plants . Sitting cold water will cool you room down . My 2 cents . Il
