Burned, toxicity or deficiency?

Hi everyone, I would really appreciate any advice and opinions on what you think may be going on with this plant. We’re in a 7 gallon pot growing in FF soil.(50/50 HF OF) Jacks 321 every watering. Last feeding Ph going in 6.5, runoff 5.9. Ppm (500 scale) going in 1100 coming out 1540. Strain is OG Kush, almost 5 weeks since flip:

She just started showing this in the last week or so, others in the tent look to be in the beginning stages as well except for blue dream sitting right next to her looking just fine:

Any ideas?

Looks like you have over fed, the ph is locking out potassium, causing the leaf edges to yellow and brown. You may be able to simply give plain water at 7.0 ph for a couple waterings and recheck runoff. You want 6.5 in soil, no more than 1000 ppm runoff. Most soil growers feed every other watering or at a very reduced EC if feeding every watering.

Ok, thanks @Growdoc. They’re dry and I was planning on feeding in the morning, I’ll do as you advised giving them plain water ph’d to 7.0. I’ll stay on that until the ppm drops back below 1000 and hopefully can get that ph up a bit. I almost did that on the last feeding but jacks says to feed every watering. Should have went with my gut. Thanks man, appreciate you. OG kush is the worst of the group but I can see it starting on some of the others. Here’s one of the whole tent:

Jacks is a good feed, but not every watering in soil. Works great in coco and Promix, plus hydro. Soil is a different game. You could feed every water in soil, but you would have to cut ec way back and you would have to get 25 percent runoff each time to prevent salt buildup, which tanks ph.:oncoming_fist::wink:

Yeah that all makes sense. And of course they recommend feeding every watering, the more you use the more you have to buy. Lol. Once I get the numbers corrected I’ll switch to every other feeding and keep my eyes on the numbers.

This is my first grow back after a 5 year break and first soil grow in probably 15. I feel like I’m having to relearn everything. Figured soil would be simple and less time consuming but I’m starting to think otherwise. Having fun though. Thanks again man, I appreciate you.

:backhand_index_pointing_up: would be my suggestion as well, if this doesn’t work or the PH continues to go down a reset flush may be needed :love_you_gesture:

@Growdoc @OGIncognito hope you guys are having a good start to your weekend.

I pushed 20 gallons of 7.0 water through them and got just about 10 gallons of runoff. Raised Ph and dropped ppm quite a bit

Mango - 6.2, 732
Maui- 6.3, 689
OG kush (problem child) - 6.3, 767
Blue Dream - 6.3, 651
Black Jack - 6.1, 839

Should I still plan to do this again next watering or should I consider a feed? Thanks again for all your help.

I would give a light feed next time and recheck runoff. Looks like you could still go in at a little high ph and it should be close!:oncoming_fist:

Sounds good, will do. Thanks man.

:backhand_index_pointing_up: nothing to add to this. Nice job on the recovery. A little out of PH range but like Doc mentioned feed around 6..8-7.0 a few rounds to liberal run off. Salt accumulation will torpedo the medium PH :love_you_gesture:

Sounds like a plan. I appreciate your input and advice.

Coming into this grow fox farm seemed like a good soil to go with but I’ve had issues with ph tanking since the start. I’ve been watering to 20ish % runoff, did a flush before I flipped them 5 weeks ago, pushed over 100 gallons of water through them. I know I’ve been over feeding which is what caused the salt buildup but I feel like this soil has just been acidic and unstable since the start, even prior to their first feed.

I have some clones that are ready to be transplanted out of their solo cups and I am starting to wonder if I should go pick up some different soil. Or give it another go and hope for different results on a revised, less frequent feed schedule.

FF is known for that. Come on over to the Promix wagon!:rofl::oncoming_fist:

I don’t know much about it but I’m open to that for sure. It’s a soilless medium correct? Looks like there’s a variety, is there a specific one you would recommend? Does it retain water decently or does it have quick drybacks? I don’t really want to grow in something that would require me to automate the watering, one of the reasons I can’t go coco, keeping up with watering manually would be impossible for me right now.

I could always go back to hydro, I still have my old GH AeroFlo hanging out in the shed. Went out and verified it’s all still there and intact, I even kept the manual. Print date on this is 11/11/1994

I use BX and add 50 percent perlite. I don’t auto water but it will need water every other day once she flowers. Promix is soilless so it’s inert and they only get exactly what you feed them. I like it because it has fast growth like coco, but no multiple feeds per day. :oncoming_fist::wink: I’ll tag you in my journal and you can see my results.:oncoming_fist:

Every other day is manageable. I assume you’re feeding every watering then correct?

I have clones currently rooted in happy frog, do you think I could drop them into the BX/ perlite mixture or do I need to wait until my next grow cycle?

You could use it now, the solos aren’t big enough to hurt, and yes, feed every watering. With Jacks, you’ll want about 1.2 EC every watering, runoff will be a bit higher but stabile once you find the EC they want. 1.2-1.4 is usually my sweet spot.:+1:

I’ve decided to just transplant the clones into foxfarm, figured I should just use it up and be done with it and not have the bags sitting around for eternity. With that being said I’m planning on mixing in perlite to help with the drainage, which I didn’t do on this current grow. Should I mix in some dolomite lime as well? I’ve read that will help stabilize the ph over time.

I do like the idea of pro mix, i ordered up some seeds from ILGM and figured when its time for the next seed run I’ll start fresh in pro mix.

I would add one heaping tablespoon of fine ground dolomitie per gallon of soil to help buffer and stabilize the FF for sure.:+1:

Alright cool, thank you. I’ll give it a go. Ive got 10 lbs on the way. Gotta love Amazon same day delivery.

I run mine thru a small grain mill to grind it to a fine powder, it breaks down fast enough to benefit the plants quicker than stones that must break down.
