Buds with strange bugs!

So it’s week 7 of bud time, and close microscopic inspections shows tiny ugly bugs that look like tiny brown or black crabs! I’m thinking some kind of Aphid maybe? I am not finding webbing like with spider mites, but could it be a different kind of mite. Unfortunately I can’t seem to get any pictures. I HATE to spray Neem Oil or something so close to harvest day. Desperately need suggestions!!!

You can use Capt’n Jacks Dead Bug all the way to harvest. Whatever you use, or don’t use, make sure you wash your buds right after harvest! Make sure you clean your tent and everything in it before your next grow.

If they look like crabs, they might be spider mites. You may not see webs until they get bad.

Probably spider mites. Don’t spray neem on buds, they will taste bad. Get the Capt Jacks or another spinosad based insecticide. Good luck, spider mites in flowering really sucks.

Thank you SOOOOO much! Now where can I find this Captain Jacks stuff? I wouldn’t even THINK of using Neem on my buds!

Amazon or maybe you can find local at a Home Depot or Walmart

Thank you!

Hi Caligurl, do these looks like spider mites to you? How do you “wash” the bud without destroying it?

Thanks!

@Bugle Yes! Eeeeeeek!! Capt’n Jacks Dead Bug to the rescue! Those little buggers :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:.

You’ve got the, bad if you have webs. How far into flower are you? Let me tag a few to confirm. @AfgVet @kaptain3d

Make sure to mix it exactly as it says no more… under ok but more not good

Wow! Not sure I’ve seen them that bad. Are you ready to harvest? A Capt Jacks treatment and afew peroxide washes might get it.

If you’re not ready to harvest I would do as @Caligurl suggested and start the Capt Jack treatment asap

I will only add that when you do harvest, you should consider a peroxide bud rinse to get rid of all of the nasties from this infestation. Personally, I always do a peroxide rinse even when there have been no pest issues.

Aside from a good wash, with multiple rinses.
Start thinking Edibles, Bubble, Tinctures, Rosin etc if the wash doesn’t get em enough you want to smoke.
At least it wouldn’t be wasted efforts. Sorry man, been there once or twice.

Yes! I did 2 washes and 2 rinses! I had aphids right before harvest and here’s what I scraped off the top of the wash bucket… and that was only ONE PLANT after the first wash (eeeeewwwww)… ok, it was a six foot tall plant, but still LOL

I like to have 4 tubs set up (but I only had 3 available.

Tub 1) 10 gallons water,

  • One cup baking soda
  • One cup pure lemon juice
  • Water (does not need to be purified water or reverse osmosis water)

Tub 2) Same as above

Tub 3) 10 gallons plain water

I had aphids bad which is why I did double wash and rinse, but see how it looks after 1 wash and rinse. Then be diligent inspecting when trimming. Also, make sure you clean your tent, all equipment and cords before you start again.

Thanks @Caligurl. I’m in the 7th week of flowering right now…. The buds are heavy and most of the pistils are brown, but little amber to be found.

Last night was my first application of CJDB and I used the premix. I have probably one more dose of premix for tonight and then I’ll go to mixing the concentrate.

What’s your thoughts about using a fogger for the tent to get a complete coverage, verses a spray bottle or standard garden sprayer?

Also, I’d be surprised if I have two more weeks to thoroughly kill the bugs and all the eggs. If I wash the plants to sanitize then after harvest, will that take care of the eggs, or Donau have to wait until they’re completely gone to harvest and begin the drying process?

I really appreciate the input!

Lol… we’ll, I guess when I do something I go all the way! :joy::joy:

Thanks for the input!

Thank you! I assume this is after you chopped them, right? Did you have to do multiple treatments, or did this take care of the eggs too?

Thanks @Pet_de_Chien, it’s definitely all a learning process. I’d rather learn up front so I know what to look for later. How do you recommend preventing this, or catching it earlier in the future? Fog the tent occasionally? Just routine inspection each week and address as needed?

You got it, IPM Integrated Pest Management.
I treat for bugs I don’t have when they are little and easy to manage, inspect, spray, particularly spider mites and fungus gnats (my frequent flyers).
I’m actually fighting mites on my Lemon Trees in my living room. And because they are there, I’m 99% likely to transfer them to somewhere else. I use Surgical Loupes to inspect, as you figured out they are damn near invisible.

I haven’t tried the fogger yet but I’ve thought about it. I use a garden fogger for my outdoor plants…
