For those that followed my last Grow Journal, “Double Bubble! The Bubblegum Twins”, you know I lost both of the twins. Being my first grow, it was exciting, even if it wasn’t successful. I also learned a lot and am now ready for “Take 2”.
Good luck I’m following😉 what strain will you be growing?
Omg I just had a twins from bubble gum from ILTGM. I was very careful and separated it.I got both going good
March 24th 1:30pm
Began soaking 2 Bubblegum seeds in room temperature tap water.
March 25th 7:30pm
Both seeds had sank and 1 had a small tap root showing.
Sowed seeds in Rapid Rooter plugs and placed in humidity dome under 46W of 6500k CFL lighting. Lights on 24/7 until seedlings sprout.
March 27th
First seedling sprouts! Waited for seedling to stand upright and moved Rapid Rooter plug into 3.5" net pot with a 1/2" layer of Growstone on the bottom and more surrounding the plug.
Placed net pot in small homemade DWC system. Water pH’d to 5.8. No nutes. Air bubbles breaking just under the net pot so the spray hits the bottom of the pot.
Growing Bubblegum from ILGM.
OK looking like you off to a good start now.
Here she is in my DWC setup with humidity dome.
Humidity has increased since the picture was taken and is now staying right around 78%. The temperature in the dome is 77.8°F (24.7°C) and the water temp in the reservoir is 72°F (22°C)… about 4° higher than I want it. Hoping temp will drop some overnight.
Need some humidity advice…
Should I vent the humidity dome?
- If so, do I just poke holes in the top of the cup?
- How many holes and how big?
I’m afraid it will get too hot if I don’t vent the dome. Then again, if I do vent the dome, won’t I loose the humidity?
I fear I’m making this more complicated than it needs to be.
yes vent it with some holes. Make 4 or 5 in a row. If you need less cover them with a piece of tape but leave a tab so you can remove the tape if you need more holes!
What happened to the other seed?
Using tape to cover the holes… GENIUS! Why didn’t I think of that?
As for the other seed… still waiting to see if she sprouts.
36 hours old.
1 5/8" tall.
RH = 68%
Temp = 78°
Water temp = 75°
pH = 5.8
Nutes = none
Lighting = 2 23w 6500K spiral CFLs and 1 14w 3500K spiral CFL about 6" above the plant.
Any adjustments needed?
I’m no expert but I think your conditions are perfect. Is that 5.8 pH the soil. If it is I think it should be between 6 and 7. But it might be OK at this point. You should @ the experts though.
I’m doing hydro. The 5.8 pH is in the water reservoir.
Oh OK told you I’m a rookie😉
it was 72*, what happened?
what are you doing to bring it down to the high 60’s, low 70’s?
Your water temp is too high, anything above 72 or 73 the water can’t hold the oxygen and it causes other issues. I would suggest either placing frozen bottles of water to bring the temp down or ice lacks, but keep rotating them to keep the temps is the mid to upper 60’s
Yea… I need to find a better way to keep the temp down. For now I put a frozen water bottle in the reservoir.
That’s exactly what I did. It dropped the temp down to 62°… It didn’t last long though. A few hours and it was back up again.
You have to have a rotation goin. Unless you purchase a chiller for your res, I have 4 bottles and 4 ices package that I rotate through
