Starting to worry as this brownish/ yellow coloring has been progressing the passed few days, i wouldnt be surprised if it is an issue with my ppm considering my meter apparently “got lost in the mail”, i will be ordering a new one as soon as i can tomorrow, until i can get that new meter (probably a week or two given shipping) can anyone point me in the right direction to help my plant thrive? Id hate to lose this plant and have to start over, ive slaved over this plant and spend more time watching it than i spend with my girlfriend, so id like to save it but dont have a clue where to start, it is in a 5 gallon DWC system with about 3 gallons of water, ph is at 5.8 it is getting 18 hours of light a day
I’m not a hydro guy but let me tag a few. @OGIncognito @CooterJuice @HappyHydroGrower

If growing Hydro some additional questions:
-DWC? RDWC? Autopots? Ebb and Flow? Other?
-Distance of liquid below net pot (DWC)
-Temperature of reservoir
-TDS of nutrient solution
-Amount of air to solution

It is skywalker OG from ILGM it is a photo female
15 days since sprout (planted 12-19-22)
Hydro DWC 5 gallon bucket, about 3 gallons of water with two large airstones maybe a centimeter below the net pot and is sitting around 73-74F as i do not have a chiller
Ph 5.8
EC unknown (waiting on new meter)
5x5 indoor ipower grow room
6 inch ipower inline fan and carbon filter
Lighting is 3 feit 30w? I am currently at work and cant remember for sure exact but i believe they are 30 a piece, being upgraded to a marshydro 450w soon!
Ppfm is currently reading 645 with all 3 lights
Lights on 18 hours off 6 hours
Temp 74 day and night
RH 65% day and night little to no fluctuation
3 humidifiers running on an inkbird humidity controller
No extra Co2 is being supplimented
Definitely need a EC/ppm/tds meter. Very important in hydro. Couple things though. How far below your net pot is your water level? And all those open holes at the top of your net pot is letting light into your pot. That will cause problems
I know i need one bad, im working on it!! Im working on a budget but getting things as fast as i can, i shouldve had my meter a week ago but still have yet to see my package
Also i will figure out covering those holes as soon as i get home from work! Thank you for that info, i didnt think that small amount of light would do much
Sorry i did really bad at reply to you, the water is probably a mm from the bottom of the net pot, not quite touching but very close
Water level should be 1 1/2 to 2" below net pot to avoid damping off.
Absolutely going to need a chiller as you will be at risk for root rot (pythium).
What nutrient line and exactly what supplements? You should be running silica and cal mag.
It needs to be 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the bottom of your netpot
I will take some water out when i get home today, i will look into getting a chiller asap, i am currently using advanced nutrients micro grow and bloom, i did not buy any additives as this is my first grow and im realising i was way less prepared than i originally thought or i wouldve waited to plant, i am looking at buy the diablo nutrient line, id have to look again at what all it includes but i will be going and getting cal-mag tonight, i know i can get that in store locally, but i will have to order the silica, i know now i shouldve waited but with atleast a week shipping time, will my plant survive? Either way ill be buying anything im told to or already planned on buying, i have 13 more seeds and im not rushing anymore
You should consider making some type of cover for the reservoir, and cover this with foil or paint it flat white. This will drop the reservoir temperature a little, probably not as much as needed but will help.
Here are the nutrients i am currently using
This is what all comes in the diablo line im looking into
And this is everything im looking at getting
Is this correct for the silica i should buy?
Anything i should add or get rid of?
A lot of folks are using Jack’s, including me and it’s probably the easiest and least expensive nutrient line available. You would not need cal mag with that but silica is always your friend.
Remember; when adding nutes to do in the correct order. Silica is always first followed by cal mag then base nutes.
Your plant should be fine until you get squared away. Foil over the top of the bucket will help for sure. You might also think about replacing your bucket with a 19 gallon yellow-topped tote: this will add more liquid volume which should let you go more than a day between fillings and will help keep PH stable.
I will look into jacks, i will be looking into a larger bucket as removing enough water so it is an inch under my net pot will leave me with 1.5-2 gallons of water, and that just doesnt seem like enough, i am using really large net pots for a 5 gallon bucket, this net pot has 4 pounds of clay pebbles and some perilite, i will get a chiller asap, will be getting cal mag and ordering silica and if i can find it jacks tomorrow when i get my paycheck. Could chlorine be causing my plant issues? I left the water out before using it for 24 hours but was not informed at the time to aerate it while it sat, i am getting an ro system to knock out any chance of a chlorine issue
If your tap water contains fluoride it can cause plant damage, and it will not gas off like chlorine. This will need to be removed with a filter or a RO system.
I would get a larger yellow lid tote as suggested, and cut a hole in the lid to fit the existing net. I would keep the net hole location towards one end, and put about a 3 inch hole in the other end with a cover, for easy maintenance access to the solution.
Also if you are on a concrete floor a tote will make more contact with the floor, and this can help hold down the temperature some.
Here is an example of an access hole in a lid, on my drip hydro reservoir. A top from a old car wax can makes a great cover.
I think @HappyHydroGrower may have some pictures of his DIY hydro totes, or ideas to share.
Appreciate the tag Grow Bro, he’s in good hands with the other cultivators ![]()
I would say likely not. Bronzing is more of a cal mag issue but I am usually less concerned about one lower leaf. Your muni water may contain chloramines which won’t gas off but going to R/O is usually the best idea for hydro as you can now control everything the plant gets.
Running a teaspoon or so of peroxide in your bucket will remove chlorine FYI.
