Hey everyone, i have an issue that also presented itself on my hydro grow.
I manifolded my hydro plants. They bushed out real bad even after I thought I pruned. As a result I pulled 11.5 oz off each plant but all popcorn.
Only problem with my environment was low humidity. Heat remained under 80 entire grow
Having the issue showing itself on my outdoor purple ghost candy during stretch. I pruned it about 9 days ago before stretch was completely underway. This morning it is super bushy. I’m thinking hedgehogs will appear in the next 7-10 days.
My question is should i remove the skinny branches pictured since he most likely gonna give me tiny little buds? Will it redirect the energy towards the main stem or is it gonna affect my yield negatively?
I can’t answer your question directly because I grow indoors using very different techniques (SCROG and LST).
That said, I remove all lower branches/new growth that won’t reach the net because it will result in a bunch of larf. I think that most folks that use similar methods actually strip the leaves and new growth on the lower part of their plants.
I hope this helps a bit. I am sure that more knowledgeable folks will chime in.
That looks like a sativa heavy strain. Outside they will stretch like maniacs. Thick/fat buds tend to be with Indica. Can negate a lot of popcorn with pruning at least 1/3 of the way up. EVERY bud under the canopy can popcorn. Every site on main stem. Focus on the TOPS vs. The whole branch. I personally grow for popcorns when I make concentrates. Sativa also has a wider node spacing and more single flowers vs. Indica thick bunches. Long tops with spaced flowers.
Just my opinion.
That was the MAIN strain growing up vs. Indica till it got here in the 80’s heavily. Long branches of flowers in your QP for 150 bux or less. After destemming and seeds lucky to have 3 zips.
I would remove the wispy ones. They aren’t gonna produce much and not be able to support the weight. Yes, the energy is redirected to the main branch. No, it won’t neg affect yield. I don’t even see sex pistils showing.
SUPER weird season here this year. Stayed cool almost all summer. Then got super hot late july for 2 - 3 weeks until this week. Day/night swings way bigger than normal for summer. 40°+ sometimes. High desert 5,500 ft.
Technically stretch should not have started till 14 hrs sunlight right? (About 4 days ago for me) With these the stretching started around 14h 15m sunlight.
Second picture taken from the side in The fabric pot is in almost full flower. Other 3 are still stretching, the faintest beginnings of hedgehogs seem to be appearing at the very tops. I could be wrong
I left the skinny branches on my photo plants that are currently in flower and I regret that decision immensely so yeah I definitely agree with Budbrother!
Also bought this today. I googled “organic silica”. This is what came up. No OMRI listing on the bottle tho. Would it be beneficial to give this to my outdoor right now through harvest?
I’d check pH as it seems to be yellowing from tips inwards. That says possibly early Zn def starting to show. The tomato tone has a good balanced Ca:Mg ratio. It is start of transition and taking both up faster, but I don’t know more details of your amend schedule. When was last re amend?
You’re good to use the Si. It’s all the same stuff potassium silicate.
Well you could add some coffee grounds as a mulch/amend. I use cottonseed meal to transplant holes. It would work as top dress in this case. Also, pine bark mulch could be added on top to help maintain a downwards pull. Could you use Aloe or yucca in the water supply somehow or is it not from a reservoir supply? The raw sulfur wouldn’t work this season. You could amend after harvest and by next season see the testable results.
I’d be perfectly willing to add such a thing and hand water 2 or 3 times a week if necessary. The heat and extreme low humidity make water daily necessary in the fabric pots. This one is in a livestock water trough (2’ deep)
Everything gets watered from the hose bib. No reservoir, city water
Then I’d splash the yucca in trough and fill. Yucca (saponins) helps with heat/drought tolerance as well. Aloe is more for veg use and the powder costs more than buying yucca wet.
