Bout to get started on my first grow later on this morning. I know it will be a ways off, but how do I know when to switch from veg. to flowering?

When to veg is a personal choice. How many plants you have and how large you want them to be. I’m a newbie as well. My girls are now ranging from 15" to 19" in veg and considering going to transition as soon as a couple catch up. When I switch over they go into transition they’ll double in size.

I switch to flower when my entire Scrog screen is filled - If I am not scrog i switched when they are about 2/3 the size i want them to be - Flowering will add 1/3
the longer you can veg them the better -
These are still in Veg and will be till the screen is full

It would depend on how big your grow space is and the max height you can fit in your tent.
When you change to flowering cannabis plants tend to stretch for a few weeks after you change the light cycle.
A good rule of thumb is that indica dominant strains tend to get 1.5x bigger and sativa strains 2x - 3x bigger.
So the best way to determine when to change is to raise your light as high as it can go and then subtract 12" -18" off from that number to get your finishing height then divide by 2 that should give you a ball park number as to when to change the light cycle. That way your plants won’t grow into your light causing burning or bleaching.
But there are also other factors that come into play like training techniques etc.
