Blackthumb betty's 6 auto strain next (mis)adventure! 2/13/18

I bought the cheapest r/o system, with the best reviews, I could find. Some r/o systems cost hundreds of dollars, but the one I bought was under $50. In a year or 2, I might invest in a better system, along with a storage tank. Right now, I’m using cleaned kitty litter buckets for storage, but I know it’s only a matter of time before my clumsy butt spills 5 gallons of r/o water. :joy:

I let my tap water sit out in used kitty litter containers. They work really well. I like the ones with the handle on the side. I should look into that for a price like that that isn’t too bad. I did see those hundreds of dollar ones you were talking about and It kind of turned me off for now. Thanks for the info. Under $100 really is pretty reasonable

It’s called the Aquatic r/o Buddy. It’s only 3 stage, but you can add a 4th filter for another $20. With only the 3, my water is waaaay better, so the 3 stage is good for me.

I also bought this nifty quick connect faucet adaptor, so I can attach it to my kitchen sink when I need it, but store it in a kitty litter bucket between uses. I could mount it & plumb it in, but I chose a portable one for a reason. :grinning:

For an inexpensive, starter r/o system, I’d recommend it.

@blackthumbbetty Hey good system there, but do you have any before and after data tests? Any PPM comparison before and after? I would be interested in getting this one too. Thank you in advance!

I posted it up above, somewhere. :slightly_smiling_face:

Actually, after doing some thinking, I’ve decided I have time to make individual screens for these plants. I’m going to mount them onto lazy susans, so I can spin them, too.

I won’t be able to order the hardware until next Tuesday, then probably won’t receive them til the first week in March, but that’s still w/in the time I need them.

I’m using a design put out here for us: it’s mobile which I needed. Look at my journal and there’s a bill of materials and pictures.

Thanks for sharing, but I already have a plan & my shopping cart is ready to go! It’ll cost me less than $60 to very easily make 6 individual frames, attach the screens, & put each on a swivel base which is easy to slide around the tent. I had a major eureeka moment last night!

Edit: I thought I’d go check out your screen, but that’s a loooong journal to get through! Could you narrow it down for me?

Woohoo!

TangieMatic had a leaf touching its dome (which had condensation on it). Half of that leaf is now brown, which means 1/4 of that seedling is now damaged. I hope she recovers.

I removed the domes to prevent the quickly growing leaves from getting themselves into trouble. I’ll keep a close eye on humidity.

So, I decided to try a rechargeable portable shower to assist with watering. If it doesn’t work, I have a new gadget for camping.

Edit: It’s Tuesday, and I just made my last grow-related Amazon order of my grow season!

By next week, I’ll have my rigged-up individual screens, ready to go! I’ll also have a new fan or 2 to mitigate my temps, now that I’m running my extra light.

I’ll post pics of the babies tomorrow.

15 days from seed/12 days from sprout

Been spritzing w/H20, 2x daily. Yesterday, I gave each 1 liter of r/o water with voodoo & Persephone’s palate (for calcium, and to help the microbes eat more), pH’d to 6.4. I’m so nervous about overwatering them in their ginormous pots! I really want to give them a good watering, but not sure when they’re ready. I’m so used to transplanting up! Lol! I 'm thinking that by this Friday they’ll be ready? Possibly a couple plants are showing cal/mag issues, so maybe I need to not only give a good watering, but add microblast, as well as calcium?

All of them are doing well. The tangiematic has leaf damage from being up against a wet humidity dome. The pineapple express looks like it’s getting some cal/mag issue or maybe a pH issue with some small white spots on leaves…definitely not bugs.

Oh, and here’s the Amnesia Haze, chugging along nicely. She’s just about to week 5 of bloom…only 7 weeks left!

Thanks, @Countryboyjvd1971! Should I start watering them more? Do you think I should be worried about cal/mag or pH? This is my first grow with r/o water, and autos. My soil is definitely warm to hot. I’m worried about underwatering causing issues. Plus, the r/o water changes pH so quickly, so I’m relearning my amounts & using pH up (which I’ve never had to do, before).

My black thumb could appear at any moment…
