couple of questions…
I live in an illegal country so I cant just go to my local store and pick up any of these products,
so as its quite an investment for us… me and a mate id say, when we decide what we are going to do… and we don’t really know what we should do… lol… I don’t hear any questions here… I guess…
sooooo, I guess I have got the growing under control (ill tag u but I am sure we have passed ) , and as long it was supplying my wife and I… and a good mate we are happy… (there is some extra but it can go to another good mate… )
so I guess the 1st question is, what are we going to love about this that we don’t already love about bud, I mean I doesn’t look too much healthier going with those weird bubbler contraptions and the blowtorch… but everyone seems to love it…
question 2… there seems to be so many names for what seams to me to be the same stuff… rosin, wax, shatter, extracts… ok so u are extracting the thc, cbd, terpines, and minimal other stuff right.? its so confusing… I understand oil to go into caps is different… how should we try this stuff…?
Number 3… this is going to be a tough on to answer as it seems that once u go down a path u are almost stuck to it because of the cost… but what would be the best system for us ?..the heated plates with the pouches, butane, ethanol, CO2 liquid… when I am aiming to be growing at full capacity will be about 2 pounds every 6 weeks… ,
Actually extracting some all of that. I’m not sure on the presence, but if it’s there, I would think I’m picking it up.
After extracting the spent material doesn’t smell much at all anymore.
Oil to make caps, you would simply dissolve the wax into the oil to desired strength. With out the chlorophyll taste.
If you have steady access try dry ice, butane extraction would work for you. Co2 would work, but the expense is a lot higher. I’ve looked into both, and my personal opinion butane will work just fine. It preserves more terpenes than co2 does. (Just what I’ve read)
You should dry your flower for best yield. Unless you have a freeze dryer, then place it in that, then extract, it would preserve more terpenes than waiting for it to dry.
They do make 2lb columns, so you could extract all of at once if you desired. @kettle

There are a few rosin pressers online, and I won’t knock pressing one bit, but I went with butane extraction, because I think it’s the least amount of work between all of the processes.
Really though, any process will have waste. That being said, the spent material does have some trichomes left, however I’ve just started, and as I have progressed, there are fewer trichomes left each run. Inevitably after doing this process enough I’ll get better.
If properly purged, butane is a safe way to extract, and consumed. The actual extraction process is safe as it’s a closed loop, and not many vapors go into the atmosphere. A little get vented at the end, all of 5 seconds worth. Just what’s left in the extractor. @kettle

@Mote I purchased that scale off of amazon, not sure if it’s still available. It has a small side that measures as pictured, the larger one weighs to the nearest gram. Up to 22kilograms. I’ll see if I can find the link, but I’m not sure it exists.
I ran out of dry ice for a 3rd run. That 3rd run was supposed to be sour diesel trim and larfy nugs. I may run that this next weekend. I’ll have to see what’s planned. Ask away anytime.
I haven’t run material for the second time. If I extract 80% or more, I figure it’s good enough. If I wasn’t practicing and still figuring it out, if I knew I could run spent material and get a better return I would. I figure I’ll just run something else.
I think I need a dry ice machine in my garage installed…

No prob on the scale, mine is ok but tiny, if I put a paper plate per your pictures I have no way to see any of the readings. Not that I weigh a lot of stuff but sometimes am “curious” of a specific Cola
If you’re getting 80%+ extraction doing a second run of spent material is probably not worth the time unless you’re severely bored & or stoned I would imagine you got lots of other strains that would be worth sampling in this manner
The list seems to get longer before it gets shorter. lol. I’m holding back on a SSH, that has amazing trichome production. I’ll end up running some lower flowers I think. Maybe I should run the whole thing?
I’m saying approximately 80% the first run. So typically when weighing the flower, 20% of the flower by weight (approximately) are trichomes.
I yielded a hair over 10% of that 35 grams. Which isn’t too bad.
Here’s the results from animal Cookies. A lot less flower, but considerably more potent. Never got a accurate weight going in, because there were seeds. But this was what I got out it:
But the smoke reports is on par.
Animal cookies terpenes in dab form,
Vanilla, Cinnamon, earthy, with a sweet exhale finish.
When vaping flower, vanilla is accented, never got a Cinnamon in flower form.
Definitely a great strain, it’s definitely more sativa in effects, with indica finishing. Very relaxing, introspective, with out paranoia. @Mote
Extracted all of the flower, and some seeds went for a ride through the butane.
So far the odds are looking good. Only one hasn’t popped in 48 hours. Might just be a stubborn one.
Friggin crazy plants. You can pamper the heck out of them and no show! or you can abuse them, put them through a butane extraction process and they dont miss a beat ?!?!?!!
Extraction today of whatever stuff I had laying around. Cleaning out the bud stash before moving. Lol.
Will post yield results after it’s done recovering. I don’t expect a huge yield, but it won’t be terrible either. There was 80% flower in there. I’ll be running some sour diesel, and Super Silver haze if there’s time later.
