He’s using butane. The dry ice is in dewaxing column. It basically wraps the material to keep it cold.

I didn’t weigh it, I just took it out of the vacuum chamber and stuck in the freezer. I’ll weight as soon as I get it transferred. The silicone mats I don’t have a weight on, and I don’t think both are the same size. Lol.

That’s roughly what I would have guessed.
Almost 4 grams wax yielded and 35 grams of flower were used. Better than a 1/10 ratio, which Is about average. Once your start yielding 1 gram of wax for every 7 grams of flower used you know 2 things
- The weed is awesome
- You are maxing out on how much you’ll yield
With all that being said it seems to me like you are right on target as far as what you are yielding.

I’ll keep getting numbers up each run. Always looking to do better.
I’ve been examining spent material, to verify how many trichomes are gone. Longer soak times (last one I did 2 hours) I think are part of the improvement. That one is from animal cookies. No weight on that because there were seeds in it. So I didn’t weigh it, but I’ll weigh the wax.
Also another side experiment whether the seeds are viable after being given a cold butane bath. Just to satisfy my curiosity. Unless someone already has a definitive answer on this?

Also, this strain was less than awesome in yield and potency. Not that that’s everything, but never hurts. But seriously 35g from one whole plant? Sad. At least for me. I was disappointed in it lol.

Plants are weird. That’s where bud density plays such a big role. Ive had plants that looked similar in size and weight while still on the vine and after I harvest them one plant will have yielded significantly more than the other

I believe this but I will say it is just a little odd to me cuz open blasting strips the trikes off in seconds and normally it’s not even worth yelling a second run within open basted BHO material cuz it strips so much off in the first run

Oh yeah I understand which comment was which. The yield from the wax from that was pretty decent. I only soaked that one for 45 mins. I examined the trichomes of the spent material, and it seems that it removes mostly the outer section of the trichome and the head. Butane seems to leave the harder portion of the resin behind.
Thinking out loud here, but what if I harvest when the trichomes are just barely starting to turn milky? Would that allow the butane to absorb more ?
