Complete newbie living in a sub-tropical climate. (Houston-Gulf of Mexico) I have read in the forum that mold is a common problem outside during rainy periods. So, which varieties are best (mold and disease resistant) when the temps and humidity are both sky high?
Grand Daddy Purple claims to be very disease resistant, but can it tolerate high humidity and temps?
I always looked for really skinny fingered sativas when facing high humidity summers outdoors as they allow for better air flow and take the heat a little better
Honestly, in that area, it’s kind of a tossup. Could be real wet summer, or could be balls hot without a drop of rain for weeks. I’ve seen a few strains develop a little bit of mold, but not so much that not more than a few grams were lost.
@MidwestGuy The White Widow, though an auto flower, gave some of the most dense, potent nugs on an outside grow. Highly recommend! And if possible is there any way you can you edit location on OP? Red zone
I’m from South Carolina and I deal with the heat, humidity it gets over 100° , Amnesia Haze grows Great Here, I grew this and filled up a few pickle jars
Right! Sativa from equatorial lineage is probably best bet here.
One problem is people often look for heavy producing or most potent strains and bud density on those is a leading factor on why they are more prone to have mold issues. Most landrace sativa or mostly sativa hybrids have a more whispy bud structure, so harvest weight not typically as high but the flowers don’t hold as much moisture either.
morning Rusty…outside growing down in south Texas is going to have some challenges for sure but you can be successful…choose a cultivar that does not have dense buds to help you control mold and get ready to inspect daily for insects
Sativas or Sativa leaning hybrids is my first thought.
Something that dosen’t have big fat dense pack nugs closely pack together like indica leaning strains do…
Or trimming/training them up to increase air flow could help…
And or grow an extra one or 2 in anticipation of losing some to mold. I imagine if you tend to it, even if ya get some, it dosen’t mean you lose it all
I might go with Bruce Banner… I am growing it inside for the first time…it is more of a Sativa and I believe its buds tend to not be as dense as others
