I live in coastal Virginia and doing my first outdoor grow this season. When is the best time to start my grow? Shouldn’t have any more nights below 50 degrees, however, with the light cycle i’m not sure when I should sprout and start my seedlings. Any experienced outdoor growers in Coastal Virginia have any advice? Growing 2 GG4 and 2 triangle mintz all photos. Thanks!

Keep flowering risk in mind. A cannabis plant is capable of flowering at < 15 hours of light per day, though some will not flower when the day length is ~12 or 13 hours.
Virginia Beach currently has 13.6 hours of light today. It will increase to 14.75 hours per day on 21 June, which is the longest day length of the season.
You can avoid early flowering by using artificial lighting to supplement until you are ready to flower to achieve a 15 hour day length.

Cannabis can’t start flowering until it is mature. So keep that in mind also. I think it’s 4-6 weeks to show sex.

If you started seeds now by the time they were sexually mature the light cycle in your area will keep it in veg mode until its time to start flowering. Usually mid August but it can depend on strain and genetics. If you have plants inside that are already sexually mature you want to wait until the end of May to put them outside.

I just finished my first grow which was indoors and I was doing 18 hours of light before I flipped. Then obviously 12 hours for flower. With only around 14-15 hours of sunlight during the summer outdoors, early flowering is something that I am concerned about. I haven’t started my outdoor grow yet and the only reason I’m doing outdoors is because you can generally get bigger yields. Would moving my plants around my property to stay directly in the sun all day potentially prevent early flowering?

Are you transplanting from inside to outside or are you gonna start seeds outside

If they are 4 to 6 weeks old already then wait a few more weeks to put them outside. I move my plants outside 1st week of June.

Transplanting after the 2 week of veg and planning on moving outside so that should put it around June 5th.
