There are brands that are popular with the mj growers like Fox Farms but your local nursery can supply you with good quality soil.
What to look for: avoid anything that has fertilizer in it! It will wreck your crop. Timed release or otherwise. Look for a soil that’s got more benign ingredients like bat guano and worm castings. Things like that. I’m not advocating organic. I’m suggesting that you want soil with these properties to get the best out of your harvest.
Fox farms Light Warrior is very safe. It’s made for seedlings.
I use Fox Farm Happy Frog with great success.
Do you these for seedlings and for potting?
Using Fox Farm soil for first time, I used to do hydro. After a week or so I noticed allot of what looked like dust floating in my room which is sealed and very clean! Come find out the soil was infected with whiteflies what a pain to get rid of! Is there any I should have done to the soil first before it went into my room?
Ever any promblems with whiteflies?
I use Happy Frog for both seedlings and for potting.
I add additional perlite for better drainage.
Sorry to bother you with all these questions I’m just trying to get this all right can’t afford to mess up. But would I need A 12qt bag or 2 cubic ft for 5 plants?
3 gallon pots x 5= 2 cubic ft
@Myfriendis410
But of course you advocating organic, you know which weed taste the best
IT’S ALL GOOD!
With the genetics you can’t go wrong:sunglasses:
I’ve gotten in habit of throwing my ocean forest in a large foil pan and cooking it on the grill for about a half hour at 200 degrees. Not sure how much it helps, but it doesn’t seem to hurt.
Yeah thought about doing that. The package said it wasn’t necessary and it could mess with natural nute’s.

@Oldpuffer
I cook my substrates for gourmet mushroom cultivation, it sterilizes the substrate, but I dont do that for any plants, heat kills all microorganisms, even the beneficial…
But you guys will most likely use nutes and feeding regime so I assume it does not hurt in this case…
You know, I do cut my soil and assumed that had a little to do with it. But probably has just as much or more to do with cooking it. I don’t go as long as most before I start feeding. So that makes sense
Dr Earth Home Grown Potting Soil
I’m not too hung up on organic really. I’m using GH products which are not. What I have learned is to use good quality nutrients regardless of their provenance. Organic is something I might try sometime but I’m having fun with coco.
There is more than one way to scramble your eggs…
I start my seedlings in black gold then use happy frog on their forever home mixed 50% with perlite.
