If your currently using t5 those are suitable as well. I’ve seen plenty of those. They just are less efficient

What do you have on hand?

Nothing but grow lights on hand atm.
In first stages of sorting a mum long term.
Does spectrum come into play for this case or is any standard strip LED going to do the job?

@dbrn32 Could you maybe give some input here. Vegging mother only for cheap but staying very healthy.
Also if not trying to stay cheap. Just curious on both options.

18/6 or anything above that and will veg forever… i kept a mother 6 months once with no issues. Coulda just kept going but switched her out.

Fluorescent will work. I guess depends on if cheap means initial cost or cheap is in regards to operating cost. Led options capable of twice the efficacy of t5 are available, but initial cost will be significantly higher.

Initial cost no worries.
Require minimal ongoing costs as adding significantly to electrical usage is not desired

How big do you plan on this plant getting? Lights like PharmerBob linked above will do. Horticulture lighting group makes hlg-65, chilled has x1 mini, anything like that should do what you need.

As small as i can whilst being able to take clones.
So 1-2 foot.

A few brands you mention i likely will not have access to so im just going to get the most decent i can find of LED or Flouro being 20w.

Ty for info, the minimal watt has answered my enquiry perfectly.

Oh btw,
Initial cost no worries

This would go miles further. And they deliver. What country are you located in? Should be pretty easy getting it shipped

I’ve done some Google reading by people keeping mothers. What I understand is to keep her small and bushy they run 150 to 250 watts as close as you can without hurting her. Then a few weeks before you want to take clones cut the lights back between 30 to 50 watts and make her stretch. When ready cut the clones and prune her back to the hieght you want her. Then turn lights back up to keep her short until you need her again. Repeat process.

What kind of light? I’ve never run light that big on mother plant. Granted I don’t grow in a large space, but the light i flower with is under 170 watts. Mother plant would grow way too fast under my flower light.

It’s what I read on some other forums. The idea was more light to keep it short. I know that happens to me in veg if I give to much light. Short with tight nodes. So it sounds like it makes sense. Then give less light to make stretch when needed.
Do you think this would not work. The lights were probably cheap leds didn’t ask because I’m not joining there forum. I know a veging plant will also grow under a 60 watt incandescent light bulb. I wouldn’t want to do it but I seen a whole plant grown like that way back in the day. Several times. Just for the record that was some shtty pot. We smoked it anyway when it was dry as whe did ditch weed.

Im going to put it under 1 or 2 of these to get an average 20-25watts
Will try and keep plant in mid veg and take clones as required.
Ty for your input, will let yas know how things go
